What You Believe is What is Real - Pretty Scary, Huh?

In the last installment, Lanny and Death were talking about Bardo(t)s. We pick up there: I learned quite a bit about both Bardo and Bardot that morning. I learned that, according to Death, Brigitte Bardot was talented in many different ways. And he enjoyed sharing every intimate detail of his exploits with her, with me – me who hasn’t had a completed date in well, let’s just say that if my love life were being examined by the team from CSI Las Vegas (the first and the best), there would be no... Bardo Versus Bardot

In the last installment of Thursdays With Death, Lanny had agreed on how and when to die and was happy that when it was all over, at least his knees wouldn't hurt anymore. I drove us back to my place, but didn’t remember the drive. I also didn’t remember Death leaving. While I went to bed, I don’t think I slept at all. All I know is sometime after sunrise I noticed that an envelope had been slipped under my door. When I opened it, I found a contract from Death, explaining everything that we had... I'm Going to be Dead Soon. Well, at Least my Knees Will Heal

Continuing the adventures of Lanny and Death. In the last installment, Death had convinced Lanny to become a companion earlier, and had just asked him how he wanted to die: “So, how do you want to die?” Not a question you would expect to hear in your lifetime - unless you are involved with the Mafia or a gang or something. It’s certainly not something you’d expect to hear from your teacher. Of course, when you’re teacher is Death, maybe it’s not such an unexpected question. “You can still die as... It's Amazing What You Know if You Take the Time to Listen to Yourself

The next installment of Thursdays With Death. In the last installment, Death had just asked me if I was ready to die. I looked at Death as he smiled. I slowly nodded and took a deep breath. “Maybe. But I need to know a little bit about how this whole thing works.” It was Death’s turn to nod. “Sure. It’s really a simple process. You state that you are ready and willing to die. We then discuss all of the specifics: when, how, where, etc. Then the event occurs, you transition, and we begin your... Sign in to see full entry.

Unlimited Power Does Not Trump Free Will

The next installment of Thursdays With Death: Death looked up at me. He had grabbed the box of Krispy Kremes and had already inhaled two. Pieces of icing from the donuts hung from both sides of his mouth. “I can help you with that,” he said. “But then we have to discuss the imminent death of Lanny Stone.” Death cleared his throat, rubbed his hands together and then wiped them on his pant legs to clean off the donut icing, and began to answer my question. “It’s really pretty simple,” Death said,... Changing Reality is Nothing Unusual

The next installment of Thursdays With Death... “So, you’re really not so good at driving, are you,” I asked Death in a fairly calm voice, considering the situation. “No, not really,” he replied. “It might have been wise for me to mention that to you earlier, huh?” “Yeah, I’m thinking it would have been. Hold on!” As we flew over the side of the cliff, I couldn't believe I had let Death talk me into taking a drive up South Mountain after we had picked up the donuts. Even though I knew he loved... Intent is Required to Change Reality

Continuing with Thursdays With Death: I didn’t hear from Death for a couple of weeks. I thought about him, which usually brought him to me, but not this time. At first I was worried, because I didn’t know what had happened to him after the cheerleader incident. But then I just figured he must be really busy, recruiting being so poor and all. I also thought about taking a shamanic journey and talking with Zaqen about this whole thing. I figured he could help me, but I decided that it was better... Sign in to see full entry.

Though One's Date With Death is Set, it's Not Set in Stone

I have continued to write Thursdays With Death in hopes of completing it as a book and finding a publisher. I think I have found the latter, now I just need to finish it. I thought I would again share the the exploits of Lanny and Death. In the last installment, Lanny had met with Zaqen, a spiritual teacher, who had mentioned something quite suprising: As I began my ride back to the valley, I could feel the tension in my shoulders. For someone who had decided to take a breakfast ride to Globe to... Sign in to see full entry.

A Story of the Desert Fathers

There is the story of Abbot Anastasius, one of the Desert Fathers*, who had written a book on very fine parchment which was worth 18 pence, and had in it both Old and New Testaments in full. Once a certain brother in the Abbey came to visit him, and seeing the book, made off with it. So that day when Abbot Anastasius went to read his book, and found that it was gone, he realized that the brother had taken it. But he did not send after him to inquire about the stolen book, for fear that the... Sign in to see full entry.

We're Not Given More Then We Can Handle. How Come We Can't Handle Loving

Our Neighbors or Enemies? None of us are given more than we can handle in this life. And many of us face incredible physical or mental challenges that we are able to overcome. Yet for many, we fail the biggest challenge of all. We fail because we haven’t learned how to love our neighbors or our enemies. How many of us see a homeless person on a corner asking for money and will actually go out of our way to not walk by them? We’ll cross over to the other side of the street. Or we will walk by...
