Do we have to accept unacceptable behavior?

If there is one problem I have with accepting people unconditionally, it's that this concept has been interpreted to mean that we have to accept whatever they do as well as whomever they are. Just to take a rather extreme example (while recognizing the danger of such an argument), let's just pretend... Sign in to see full entry.

The flip side

The flip side of just sitting around listening and making soothing clucking noises at each other (in the wrongheaded belief that this is "emotional support") is this. Have you ever felt like you were getting the royal brushoff - that someone else really hadn't listened to you, but was telling you... Sign in to see full entry.

More

In reading the work of yet another blogger - Bobbieo - I came to understand that there's more to this issue than I previously stated. I'm not saying that my own ideas are completely wrong-headed - far from it, in fact. What I am saying is that plenty of real-life people live in the same types of... Sign in to see full entry.

Why in the world...

I'm sure there are some people out there - not that many, but some - who have noticed that I've had my undies in a wad over the male-bashing "issue" brought up by another blogger. It's not up there on the level of rocket science or brain surgery, but it does have some components which bother me.... Sign in to see full entry.

Dealing with conflict

In one of my other blogs, I talked about a four-step method for dealing with people who violate what many self-help gurus call boundaries. Most of the time those violations are minor, or unintentional, or both; in my other blog, I talked about egregious violations, like being yelled at, being called... Sign in to see full entry.

They found the monkey

Remember the Rhesus monkey that was wandering around Chicago's North Side yesterday? They found it and fined the owner. Not that the owner minds the fine, mind you - he was all too willing to pony up the cash just to have Hopi back. That's the problem - he has a wild monkey as a pet and he still... Monkey on the loose in Chitown

Yes, you read right - there's a monkey on the loose in Chicago. Hopi, a Rhesus monkey, is running loose on the North Side. The problem I have with this case is that the monkey doesn't belong to either Lincoln Park or Brookfield Zoo. This monkey is someone's pet, and the someone who owns the monkey... Evil Under the Sun

I just got finished watching one of my favorite movies - the Peter Ustinov version of Evil Under the Sun. (I didn't particularly care for the version aired on A&E recently; I prefer the theatrical version starring Ustinov as Hercule Poirot.) The premise is that Poirot chooses to visit a posh resort... Why fact is more important than belief

There are times when fact is more important than belief. In fact, it is more often true than we'd like to admit that fact is more important than belief. If I walk over to the tap to pour myself a glass of water, for example, it is true that I believe the tap will produce clear drinkable water. But,... Sign in to see full entry.

Whim, you did it again!

Whim wrote another post - I'm not sure it's relevant to which blog she posted it - about male-bashing. Frankly, I'm uncomfortable with the entire idea of male-bashing. For those of us who are actually related - either by blood or by marriage - to men willing to change in response to our complaints,... Sign in to see full entry.
