Before the storm

Piggens was a strong little guy ("I'm a big boy" he says now that he can talk). Before he could even walk he could open doors and when he could walk he could climb into his Aunties open van window- I wish I had video taped that- it was so hilarious and would shock onlookers- he didn't care for clothes much so you had this baby wearing just diapers hanging on the window frame of the van and he'd use his strong legs to climb in through the window. Around the house he'd wear his yellow boots and... Sign in to see full entry.

A phone call

Actually it wasn't long before we saw Piggens again. When I got home from work at 3:30 AM I couldn't sleep so I wrote about the day before and finally fell asleep about 6:30. At 9:30 we got another little visitor- my stepson's 2 year old daughter. Jan had promised to watch her over the weekend and she was delivered 7 hours early! For awhile it was exciting to think we would have both of the children together since neither of them have siblings. But since Piggens was stripped away it was more of... Sign in to see full entry.

The current Piggens story

I think I need to try something different. I have been telling the story of Piggens somewhat chronologically which seem to come out as a cross between a journal and a story. But it has been hard to hold back from telling things that are happening in the present- I wanted to quickly build up to the present but as things go I couldn't do my job and get it done. Writing is new to me so its hard to get in a mindset to tell a story and keep you interested. And let me tell you the drama in my own life... Sign in to see full entry.

walking

Piggens was getting bigger though he was still small for his age. He still wasn't walking and still wouldn't turn over and crawl but he sure had speed to get around and was very smart at getting what he wanted as kids usually are. We was still one happy little boy, playing his guitar, singing, tring to get to our laptops, turning the Tv channel or turning it off to get a reaction out of us. The only thing was he wouldn't play much with toys- any tool was so much better for him. Luckily he did... Sign in to see full entry.

The babysitter

Sometimes we had a babysitter to go out or if Jan and I were working so sometimes Jan would have the babysitter stay overnight and into the next day as she was a friends daughter. I liked having her around- she was sixteen and it was just nice for me to talk with her some. When my kids were teens things where so wacky in my marriage and family situation I was really just an outsider providing the finances. Anyway it was kind of fun to have her around though she wasn't the best babysitter. Like I... Sign in to see full entry.

growing

Piggens was in his second year and was a blast for me. He was really a smart happy little guy and energetic. He still couldn't or won't roll over and crawl but he could scoot on his head faster than any other baby could ever crawl. It was hilarious. He scoot up and then climb on the couch and than attack our laptops. His little fingers could pull up a key so fast it was unbelievable. Jan's keyboard is still missing about 9 keys. Of course we had to hide the remote too, but he knew where the... Sign in to see full entry.

moving on

Piggens mom was getting worse and really had no care back at her apartment. Her knee was not healing and she was facing losing her leg. Jan couldn't keep travelling back and forth between the two apartments so she had to consider taking Kellie in. This meant she had to get a new place to live as our apartment had steps to it and that wouldn't work with a wheelchair. I had already had been considering leaving the relationship but I had really enjoyed Piggens and still I didn't quite think that... Sign in to see full entry.

year one

So Piggens first year was with both his mother and with us. He never really sat up or even rolled over that first year, but his legs were strong and he used that to his advantage. He could climb up to us and onto the couch even though he couldn't stand. He had a slow physical development which we put on his premature birth but his stength was amazing and his thighs and really his whole body was pure muscle. He learned how to turn on my standing halogen lamp and that was his favorite thing to do... Sign in to see full entry.

Piggen covers

Piggens was an easy baby. He didn't cry for no reason, he was happy and laughed quite a bit and of course was cute. He'd also sleep good, when he'd sleep with us sometimes we could just get up and move him to his crib when it was time and he'd be content and sleep on. During the day Piggens would lie on his back kicking his feet, laughing and he especially liked lights so I'd tease him with a flashlight beam on the ceiling. Jan had her ways with him to- I'd hear them coming down the hall her... Sign in to see full entry.

Us and Him

Now we had a baby in our apartment. Here I go again, I'm thinking. Actually I didn't know what to think, here is a baby with us and our "us" is questionable. Our relationship had never been solidified, quantified, or whatever you might call making a relationship real. I was getting doubts and it wasn't even her fault, yet. But there is nothing like a baby at home. I work nights and when I'd get home I would have to sneak a peek, you know, to see if he's covered or whatever. Jan thought that was...
