Rectangles, triangles, and fold overs…long live PB&J!

The high spot of my day was fixing lunch for my granddaughter and oldest grandson. Their lunch of choice is good old PB&J. M calls them peanut butter and jelly sandwiches although I use strawberry jam. I haven’t purchased any jelly in years. I like the thicker, sweeter texture and taste of jam and... The cat did it. I think.

Or the case of the upside down monitor. My son and the grandkids got back from Tennessee a little after eight Sunday night. I got to visit with them for a while before he packed the youngsters off to bed. And, since he has to be at work by seven every morning, I kept my visit short. It was mostly... That damned cat!

It’s all the cat’s fault. For lack of anyone else to blame, my daughter-in-law’s new kitten will have to take the rap for my failure to post today. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to get much done today either, despite all my grandiose plans (they weren‘t really so grand, I‘ve just been wanting... Sign in to see full entry.

“Lonely days and lonely nights”

…sounds like a song title. But all I could find in Joel Whitburn’s various compilations of pop music artists and song titles was “Lonely Days,” an early seventies Bee Gees hit, and “Lonely Nights” by Bryan Adams, a song that never charted higher than the mid-eighties a dozen years later. Maybe it’s... Sign in to see full entry.

I got nothing, so let’s try this on for size:

Tuesday nights often force me into a difficult choice. Do I watch “NCIS or Nova?” Normally it would be hands down in favor of “Nova.” “NCIS,” however, is one of the CSI-type shows that I really enjoy. To my taste it is the least outlandish and most consistently good of the enormously popular crime... Sign in to see full entry.

Jimmy Dean

…the singer, not “James” the star crossed young actor, had quite an impact on me when I was a young man. He had made a much more lasting impression on me than the actor who shared his name, though I suppose most would state it the other way around. Jimmy D. turned out to be a pretty good character... And then it all disappeared.

Sometimes you can’t win for losing. Much like my marriage, my fortune, and a lifetime’s worth of collected personal memorabilia, two days worth of carefully crafted posts disappeared in the blink of an eye. In retrospect, they probably weren’t all that brilliant after all. But it still ticked me off... Sign in to see full entry.

The ex would have left me for Elvis

…in a heartbeat. If he was interested, which of course he wasn’t. At least she said she would leave me for him when The King was still among the living. It didn’t even bother her that he had gotten more than a little pudgy in his last years. Love handles evidently were not a detraction when she was... Sign in to see full entry.

My apologies go out to the ex.

I may sometimes seem uncomplimentary to her. I am less than happy about the circumstances under which we parted. Hell, I’m unhappy that we parted at all. But there are two sides to every story. When I mention the ex you only get my side. I don’t presume to understand her motivations then or now. And... Sign in to see full entry.

Notapoet is feeling much better tonight, thank you.

Hopefully yesterday was just one of those times when a combination of oppressive heat and humidity, physical fatigue, and a general malaise centering on a severe headache (probably caused by the fatigue and the heat) ran me into a brick wall. I seem to be fine right now. I ought to feel better.... Sign in to see full entry.

Out of gas!

There was a lot more I wanted to do tonight, but I’m totally out of gas and need to call it a night. I guess this puts me yet another day behind in my plans. But there just isn’t any help for it. Sorry I didn’t get to visit much tonight. I’ll try to do better tomorrow after I’ve had some rest. Sign in to see full entry.

Today started off great.

I woke up refreshed after getting plenty of sleep. I actually had breakfast well before noon. And I enjoyed my Sunday ritual of watching “Sunday Morning.” Then the muggy heat started to settle in and my day went south in a hurry. The humidity is what I think started to get to me. My nasal passages... Sign in to see full entry.

I miss my grandson terribly.

Thursday he left for Boone with his grandmother, my ex. He was all excited about the trip and being able to spend a lot of time with his Meemaw. He is her favorite and she spoils him as much as she can get away with. I know he loves her the most of all his grandparents because she is the one who... Sign in to see full entry.

Booze and drugs can be a lethal combination.

I survived this valuable lesson in my early twenties. I hope my daughter-in-law’s little sister will do the same. It was touch-and-go for her most of yesterday. The first I knew of it was yesterday evening when I went over to my son’s place a couple of hours earlier than normal to get a head start... Sign in to see full entry.

Time tripping has always been one of my favorite pastimes in this blog.

It’s not a longing for the good old days that sends me traveling back in time. I know better than that and have often expressed the belief that the good old days weren’t really that good. We just didn’t have all the ugliness, violence, and greed of the world shoved down our throats in a constant... Sign in to see full entry.

It has been an oppressively hot day in North Carolina.

I never minded the hot summer days quite so much until I moved into a mobile home (read tin sweatbox) not quite four years ago. Part of it may the simple fact of growing older. I keep hearing that as you age you become more susceptible to discomfort from extended periods of high heat. I’m old enough... Sign in to see full entry.

It’s always something

…conspiring to keep me from blogging as regularly as I would like. Last night it was my daughter-in-law’s little sister and the Detroit Tigers’ extra-inning game with Boston. J. was spending the night with her big sister. I gave the blogging a try for a few minutes, but it was impossible. I can... Sign in to see full entry.

The Color Three

…is what my one and only granddaughter adopted as her new name a few months ago. “Three” was the short form. She would quickly correct everyone who addressed her by her given name. Three‘s mother didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Personally, I thought it was a sign of imagination and independence... Sign in to see full entry.

Celebrating the Fourth of July

My Fourth of July was atypical, to say the least. The congregations of three churches got together for a group baptism and Independence Day celebration. My oldest grandson was one of those being baptized. He is only six. My first impulse was that he was too young to appreciate the significance of... Sign in to see full entry.

Damn!

Missed another day of blogging yesterday. It’s probably just as well. I had a newspaper deadline to meet this morning. So, instead of spending the wee hours of the morning on line, I polished off my latest sports commentary. Blogging would have been more fun and less solitary, but the column brings...
