Chinese Man Beaten to Death by Authorities for Filming Protest

This happened several days ago in China. Wei Wenhua, a 41-year old construction company executive in China, was beaten to death recently. Apparently, Wei came across a confrontational protest by villagers over the government’s attempts to dump waste by their homes. The villagers tried to stop trucks... Sign in to see full entry.

Technology, the Two-Edged Sword--Electronic Money

Technology can be a two-edged sword: it can be used for either good or evil. That is true of almost any kind of technology. It is not humanity’s pathway to godhood, nor is it humanity’s pathway to Hell. For the most part, I like technology: I like it when we figure out how to do something new,... May 2007--Hackers Take Down Estonia

This happened in late April, early May of 2007. Apparently, a group of hackers coordinated an overwhelming cyber-assault on Estonian servers and websites. It all started with some political bad blood. Apparently, the Estonians decided to remove a six-foot bronze statue from the Estonian capital.... Sign in to see full entry.

All Faiths Day

To celebrate the New Year I'm declaring a new holiday--not that anyone will listen to me. But here it goes anyway: I remember once hearing a story that on a particular Christmas day in World War I (or perhaps it was WWII) the soldiers in the trenches on both sides of the battlefield stopped fighting... I’m good with math, logic… stuff like that, but the only things I... Sign in to see full entry.

A Time to Kill

As noted in other articles I have written, I was raised Catholic. As many are aware, Jesus of Nazareth is famous for, among other things, saying “Turn the other cheek.” He was an early pacifist. Another hero of mine (actually two) is Socrates (and Plato) who said “One must endure the ignominious... Sign in to see full entry.

Islamist expert, Stephen Coughlin, fired by Pentagon

Again, we are faced with disturbing news for the War on Terror. Stephen Coughlin, an expert in Islamist extremism and Islamic law, was fired from his position on the military’s Joint Staff. There is a full story here:... Sign in to see full entry.

All Faiths Day

I posted this essay last Tuesday concerning All Faiths Day and I have decided to keep posting it every Tuesday from now until February 29th. I hope you enjoy it. To celebrate the New Year I'm declaring a new holiday--not that anyone will listen to me. But here it goes anyway: I remember once hearing... Sign in to see full entry.

Fred Thompson

Since I have this blog and can use it as a bullypulpit, I'm going to throw my considerable political weight (I mean I have a readership of what... 3 now, okay, maybe 5 ) behind Fred Thompson. I just donated a small (and I do mean small) sum of money to his campaign. The reason I like Thompson is... Sign in to see full entry.
