One foot in front of the other

I am probably (or, in truth, definitely) the world's worst negotiator, when it comes to matters financial. I gave my lodgers a 'mates rate' rental agreement, and it was more than generous. I told them, after 15 months, that I was going to put the rate up by £50 per month, and she argued it, and... Sign in to see full entry.

AMU

Poor mum is back in hospital. The move to the rehab/nursing home finally took place on Thursday but, it turned out, she really wasn't well enough. My sister wasn't happy when she left after visiting, mum said her lungs didn't feel right, and my sister thought she could hear that something was wrong... Sign in to see full entry.

A Gentle Glow

A lovely compliment from my dearest today while I was cooking. He said he thought he and I would have worked out okay the first time around. I'm still smiling. It made me happy... better late than never, I said. Perhaps this should just be my little secret... but I didn't want to forget so this is... Sign in to see full entry.

What the..?

It has been another extremely busy week, with mum's health going up and down - worryingly down for several days - and as much as I enjoy my Mondays at home, I've noticed that lately I feel a bit sick driving along the lane to my house. I almost don't want to come home, in case anyone is there. This... Sign in to see full entry.

Progress?

Today as I drove into my cul-de-sac to my home, after a couple of hours at my little part-time admin job, I felt very 'anti.' This wasn't because I didn't want to come home, but because I didn't, and don't, want to come home to find the continuing presence of the lodgers so much in evidence. I know... Strictly No Dancing

It was a bit too quiet around here wasn't it. Our break in Yorkshire was lovely, and we were packing to come back on Saturday morning (the one before this last one) when my sister rang my mobile. Mum had fallen, Friday night, and broken her hip. Fortunately she was wearing her alarm pendant so was... Sign in to see full entry.

Nice things

Had a very pleasant visit to my sister yesterday. She'd been to see the consultant in the morning and the news was slightly more encouraging; her current medication has slowed the cancer's progress, and she is going to have a course of injections to strengthen her bones. We all struggle with her... Sign in to see full entry.

Little Green Jug

Give someone enough rope... in this instance, I came home on Sunday to find a little note from the lodgers saying sorry for breaking a 1950s jug I have (had) on the windowsill. It had got caught somehow in the kitchen blind cord and smashed on the worktop. I find this strange, but didn't say so,... Sign in to see full entry.

Gearing up

After the recent fiasco with the lodgers (the effects of which they are blissfully unaware of, since I didn't explode there and then), I've been wrestling with what to say and when, and I think I'm nearly there now. The lease runs out at the end of September, in a few days. They will probably assume... Sign in to see full entry.
