Imagining Trouble!

When I started this blog (in fact, blogging in general) it was to document and share the ups and downs of raising a child with a multicultural background. I have strayed from this concept and branched out into all sorts of topics, but an incident on Friday left me in an analyzing mood and I just had to write about it. It was a family outing with a friend, a walk in the Old Town in Warsaw. The weather was cloudy and soon small droplets of rain were coming down. With only one umbrella between the... Ramadan is here!

Yes it's that time of the eyar again. For some obscure reason there was no "when is the first of Ramadan" mayhem yet hearing the cannon shots at sunset was a pleasant surprise. It is a custom that dates back to Ottoman times and it distinguishes Ramdan in Syria from other parts of the world. I'll be working around the clock this motnh. I have a Polish student who is coming to Latakia from tuition in the Arabic language so I 'll have m,y work load doubled. I'll try to blog more frequently, I have... Sign in to see full entry.

“Letter by Letter” opens

I don’t know what kind of news you like first, so I’ll give you the good ones: My exhibition opened yesterday, 40 works in all ( not the 41 mentioned in the pamphlet). I did not get the attendance I had hoped for, especially when compared to the opening of my first exhibition 9 years ago. Only one work was sold on the night, the fact that I borrowed money to fund my trip and exhibition makes this a very bad piece of news indeed, I would still have to pay for the frames and the gallery’s fee so... On Libyan soil!

I AM IN Libya!!!!! Helliluja! Adam and I have made it to North Africa with no major incidents (we flew first class even though we had economy class tickets becuase Adam wanted to sit there and the plane security officer obliged him!!!!). I did get one rude surprise upon arrival: the time slot for my exhibition had been taken and now i have to open on the 23rd of April or wait till mid May, so now it is a mad rush to get the works framed and the invitation cards have to be designed, printed and... A Beetle in Molasses

That was my Islamic Art History's way of telling someing to show some life as they kicked them of his class, it is how i'm feeling now as i struggle to get everything done in time: the housework, the multiple social demands and yes my ART. Hubby had been so "supportive" i had another bout of depression, I have the maids coming 3 times a week, my aunt is cooking traditional meals for me to present to my fickle husband and still he is not happy, i guess he will not be happy until i chuck all my... Garcia's Farewell

My mother sent me this letter wirtten by Gabriel Garcia Marquez on his retiremeent due to illness. When today ends another year of my life would have passed, and most of that was beautiful and heartening about it has come from you my fellow bloggers. I may have been away for a while but I can't wait to get back to reading and being read. thank you and God bless! Gabriel Garcia Marquez, famous writer from Colombia, and Nobel Peace prize winner for literature, has retired from public life for... Sign in to see full entry.

The headless chicken diary I

Hi everyone. It's so good to be back. The phone lines in a 5 Km radius were down so I could not go online, but i did make a lot of progress on my work for the exhibition, more is needed at a faster pace but i can't seem to summon the energy required for all the tasks at hand. The search for a cleaning lady is over; I had one come yesterday, she did a pretty good job but took up 4 hours of my precious time because she kept asking for the whereabouts of things and how to arrange the carpets and... Luck of the Syrians!

Just as I thought the worst was over, nature and luck seemed to give me the tumbs down: it snowed here in Lattakia on Thursday and they had to bring bulldozers to clear the road connecting the city to the main seaside resort! We also had a mild earthquake, I might be the only one to have noticed it but in Lebannon it caused a lot of damage and several people were killed, the old folks say that Latakia was destroyed 7 times by earthquakes so we were luck to get away with a passing shiver. But the... Sign in to see full entry.

Life thus far!

Sorry about the vanishing act guys, I needed time to pull myself together after that last post. I was overwhelmed by your kindness, your understanding and your support. I now wake up knowing that no matter how bad things are in the real world, I have a place where i can speak out without fear of being judged, ridiculed or dismissed. Thanks to your prayers, comforting words and wise advice I was able to climb out of my dark hole and reclaim my sense of self-worth, dignity and sanity. It simply... Sign in to see full entry.
