Silver linings

"To make money we lose our health, and then to restore our health we lose our money.... We live a if we are never going to die, and we die as if we never lived...." Anonymous The week-long training is over, thank God! I used to consider the Berlitz training I passed 9 years to be the hardest thing I had to undergo. later, it became the second hardest (the first being: giving birth to a child), now I can attest that undergoing the Berlitz twice is the ultimate nightmare. I am paranoid by nature,... Sign in to see full entry.

The rollercoaster takes a nose dive!

Hi everyone and thank you for the congratulations but I am back to were I started. Today was by far the hardest and I was almost going t cry by the time it was over. The system is very complicated and you have to come up with good solutions and explanations for every single word you have to introduce. I wish I had a remote control for life (like the one Adam Sandler had in Click) and use to put everything else on hold until I get the job. Sadly, life is not like that. I have another worry on my... A sigh of relief!

Hi everyone, Thank you for your kinds wishes, I passed the first hurdle today and nailed the Berlitz cycle. The Berlitz training guru Ola was very happy with my presentation. I was relieved in more ways than you can ever imagine, the first day was really bad and the two demonstrations of the Berlitz cycle in Lithuanian and German were too much for me, especially with the flu pressing heavily on my brain. My experience helped a lot but I knew that I would have to be sharp as a tack to pass the... Sign in to see full entry.

Berlitz Blitz

Yesterday was the first day on the week long training. We finish next Monday and hopefully if I pass the assessments successfully I will have a job. Today is the first assessment and I have to deliver a perfect Berlitz Cycle (Benzinha you know how this goes!). I would have been more relaxed about today's task if my flu had not taken a turn of the worse, I'm scared to death of losing my concentration on the spot, if you get distracted for a second and mix up the order of questions or miss a step... The hijab rears its ugly head again!

I don't know if you've already heard about the Muslim teen suing Abercrombie and Fitch, this is an article about it. This incident adds fuel to the fires raging about some Muslims attempts to force their views and values on the societies they live in. I find it amusing that this girl would have faced equal "discrimination" in some Muslim countries. I had posted an entry about this very subject more than two years ago, but it would do this girl good to read it Wednesday, June 13, 2007 Muslims... Sign in to see full entry.

Couldn't resist posting this link!

I was planning to post something I'd written but I came across this story and I felt that I had to share it as a shining example of religious tolerence. Sign in to see full entry.

A voice from the Harem+Shahrayaar's tears - a repost, yet still relevant

As you may know from my previous entry: I now consider my marriage of 5 years over -but try telling that to my husband! I reposted this entry as an intro to what could be a long dissection of the relationship between men and women in Arab culture. Sometimes, the angle will be personal, oftentimes it will come from a social point of view but once in a while it is literature that will provide added insight to how we perceive love, marriage, and the gender stereotypes as is the case here with Nizar... Hi guys, I am sooo sorry abt my that last post (it is technically my first post since my forced abscence from Blogit). I had to live without a credit card for 9 months becuase of an error on my bank's part and then after I got it I still could not use it to renew my Blogit account due to a technicallity they forgot to tell me about. Anyway, I finally managed to get my acouunt activated but guess what? my computer would not display the "add a new entry" page! I only got a messed up version of the... Sign in to see full entry.

Adam's work of art

This is a portrait that my 3-old son Adam did of me. It shows me carrying a pile of pillows! I don't know about you but I was on cloud 9 at the thought of my son drawing me, albeit in a very unflattering way! Sign in to see full entry.
