I made it until after four AM, greeting the first light of dawn from officers' country. It was a magical night with the sound off the TV and the thunder providing the cadence of my different drummer. Lightening lit up the back yard but we had nothing here excepting hard rain. The cat was hungry all... Sign in to see full entry.

I didn't mention that my high school grad called me this morning at 6:50 AM from Brussels, Belgium. She is having fun and on her second day they are packing up to go to Paris. I talked to her for three minutes at $1.39 per, roaming. I switched her cellulars because mine is a World Phone Blackberry.... Sign in to see full entry.

Woo-hoo! School's out for summer! I had a short, hot minute sit-down with my CEO just within the hour. I told her that I had to correct my retirement points to match the district numbers. I will be elegible for retirement in three years, not five as we had discussed. But that I was not planning to... Sign in to see full entry.

The Exciting Future Morphs Into A Splendid Now

I guess I should talk all about it, but my mother has had a small stroke and will be hospitalized for several weeks. She lost the use and feeling in her right hand and leg. She's signed up for stroke therapy. Prognosis hopeful for this ninety year-old notch lady. My oldest, hotter water daughter,... Sign in to see full entry.

It is ten-thirty on Friday night; my girls just left to work out at the 24-7 gym where they belong. I just got home after a mind-numbing litany of duties, trips, chores and errands, the staggering intensity of which, since five-thirty A.M. I will not bore either of us. But I will say one thing that... Sign in to see full entry.

My Night at a Fraternity Party

My senior year of college I hired on to sing happy hour at a new and fancy restaurant. Three nights a week I had the early show at Charlie Brown's off campus at the University of Kentucky. It did not interfere with my Sunday duty, singing and playing guitar at mass on campus, at the Neuman Center.... Sign in to see full entry.

Waukee Nails, Iowa's Spotlight on Highway Six

I am sitting in the salon of Waukee Nails. My ninety year-young mother is having a pedicure and manicure. Her birthday bash is one week from tonight, so we are getting her prepped. Iowa is windy today. Yet how lucky we have been to have been inside the curl of that terrible hook of storms that has... Sign in to see full entry.

Are We There Yet? How Did We Get Here?

Today is my first daughter's last day of final exams. She rushed in last night needing food and money, and then dashed back to her study group. Her summer will be spent in classes. She has chosen a double major. My second daughter graduates high school in ten days. She has, as her graduation present... Sign in to see full entry.

All About Duncan, the Best Cat in the World

We have achieved a new layer of peace at home. With daughter #1 away at school, daughter #2 has become the main driver. No more rushing to get to school on time. She takes me to work, then takes her time driving herself to school. This is her final semester of high school. Everything is changing in... Sign in to see full entry.
