Non-Farm Payroll day. This is not as important as it once was, but it still packs a punch. Traditionally it was something to do with calculating the total employed people in the USA for that month. It got in a mess because they could never work out how many people worked the land, especially during harvest. So they made the decision to work out everything BUT the farmhands.
