My husband is out of his ever loving mind

The last week has been a whirlwind. I have been up and down and up and down. At one point, my husband decided to look at a house for sale. I was like you want to do what? We have spent money on architectual plans, spent time with a contractor, and bought property to build this new house on. He was... Sign in to see full entry.

Delightful

Delightful. This is the characteristic used to describe some women that lives in one of the group homes far away from us sitting in a hospital with a feeding tube that cannot be taken care of at the home she lives in now. She will come to my most difficulty house. Twelve people live there and they... Sign in to see full entry.

You played baseball?

I wrote last time about renting a storage unit. I have been working for one week now on boxing up our lives and packing them away. I am not sad but there is some sort of bittersweetness that goes along with packing. My two sons have been helping some, especially my fourteen year old. Today he was... Sign in to see full entry.

My hopes for this house

We sold our house. We are building a new one. There will be about seven or eight months where we are houseless. We will move to my parents basement-the four of us along with our two old hound dogs. This should be a riot. She has two terriers. Four dogs, four adults, and two kids. My parents are... Sign in to see full entry.

Who is the crazy one?

One of the folks in my caseload had hip replacement surgery three weeks ago. Her hip was so deteriorated, it was as they say "bone on bone." She does not talk. She has some problems with mental illness along with her profoundly retarded personality. She does walk but does not talk. When she is well,... Sign in to see full entry.

What a nerd!

My son is a fourteen year old self proclaimed nerd. The hardest part about being his parent is accepting the fact that he wants to be a nerd. He likes it that way. He is number one academically in his small class of 56 students. He works hard. He is incredibly handsome or at least I think so. He... Sign in to see full entry.

Who exactly are we trying to make feel better?

I have a fellow in my caseload that has been through so much in the past several months and I truly thought that he would die. He didn't and I have written about him before. In fact, he has gotten so well that we have had to take away some of the extra food he was getting because he is getting too... Sign in to see full entry.

Where are your words?

How can it be that they understand me when I talk to them but they can't talk back? I have several people in my caseload of develpmentally disabled adults that clearly follow verbal commands and respond appropriately to requests. Some can even nod yes or no. They cannot speak though. I don't get it.... Sign in to see full entry.
