9/11

Hi, Yesterday was, as you know, was the anniversary of 9/11. Watching live on TV as the duel blocks of two minutes silence filled my lounge I found myself unwittingly standing in silence along with all the relatives and friends of those who lost loved ones on that dreadful day. Return of the Heroes!

Hiya! I wrote my opening entry on blogit a few days before the start of the Olympics and I bemoaned the lack of true sporting heroes and in particular the slump of the Olympic superstar given the all the negative imagery surrounding sports stars and the seeming inevitability that 'all' top athletes... Where have all the heroes gone?

The year is 1980. The venue, Moscow’s Olympic stadium. The race, the 800m final. The winner, Britains’ Steve Ovett. And I cheered and I cried as he crossed the line.
