Community Help: calling card help

calling card help

First, I don't see the difference between leaving a symbol or these calling cards.  Each can be done equally quickly.  However, I can't put this to the test because when I click on calling cards to try and leave one, I get a list of icons and a pop up with a bunch of error messages.  What am I missing?
