Home? What's that all about?

We are heading back 'home' to Wisconsin tomorrow for a week. I lived in Ontario for the first forty-six years of my life before packing up belongings and moving to the Midwest. "Where the heck is Wisconsin?" we asked when Steve was recruited for a job there. So that's been 'home' for the past six... Sign in to see full entry.

The tide rolls in...

..and the tide washes out. It's simple; it's fascinating. We took a walk on the mossy ocean floor at low tide. Beach combers have so much more to find at low tide. We walked out as far as we could. But then the waves beat us back. But it's something we can do, twice a day if we so choose! It's fun... Sign in to see full entry.

As ubiquitous as the daffodils...

...the sheep and the pubs, there are many many castles and cathedral ruins in the bonny country of Scotland! In the town where we are staying sits the shell of a castle and a once-grand cathedral, complete with gravestones that date way back. It's fascinating to walk amongst them, reading about... Pub lunch anyone?

Jacket potatoes. I love 'em! As ubiquitous as the daffodil in springtime, eateries of all kinds usually have the jacket on their menu. To North Americans this type of potato is referred to as the baked potato but here, the title of 'jacket' is given to a baked spud that is filled and filled with any... Sign in to see full entry.

From the country to the city!

'twas a lovely day yesterday so we took a train to the capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh, three stepdaughters in tow. A city of cobblestoned streets and hills galore, we toured Edinburgh Castle, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots who was crowned at the age of nine months. Mary, however was... When all at once I saw a crowd...

...a host, of golden daffodils! (William Wordsworth) There are crowds of them here in Scotland. I have never seen so many, growing in every imaginable place, in my whole life. They are truely ubiquitous here! Went on a country walk which took us by the sea and through woods and dales. Shot a few... Sign in to see full entry.

Flipping through photos and journals I came upon..

...a particularly beautiful place we stayed last year. I had made the following journal entry when I awoke to the beauty of Switzerland. Morning has dawned on the Swiss Riviera. I know this from counting the clang of church bells that I’ve listened to every hour all night, but mostly I realize the... Sign in to see full entry.

Wandering down the path of life...

..I'm back in Scotland, staring out the window into a thick mist. I can barely see the North Sea but knowing it's out there is comforting and in a few minutes I'm going out to say hello. My trip back home to Ontario was great but hectic as always. I spent nine days hopping from one family member to... Sign in to see full entry.
