Debatable thoughts

Round one to Romney, or so the pundits score it. I don’t know if I would say he won or just that he didn’t do bad. After the 47% remarks, I think a lot of folks might have expected to see a more down keyed Mitt but he came out firing, a sense of urgency in his voice that conveyed he is convinced if... Changes

The one thing that never changes is change. We growl and moan when our “smart” phone is updated and suddenly the old connectors don’t work. Some are vexed when their favorite news personality is booted or moves on to greener pastures. A lot of us whine when the seasons change despite the fact they... Sign in to see full entry.

Headline time

Gray wolf pack in Wash. State will be shot dead after preying on cattle. It turns out this is happening in my “back yard.” It has been the lead story in the local newspaper for quite a while. http://www.statesmanexaminer.com/ Of course it gets national attention because of the protected gray wolves... The prattle about Seattle

The odd thing, and everyone knows it’s true, had the situation been reversed and Green Bay benefited from the replacement official’s gaffe, every sportscaster worth their, whatever sports casters have, would have echoed the sentiments of the Seattle radio announcers, where the tie goes to the... How much do we really know?

Living in a very conservative area, I constantly hear conversations that go something like this, “The real problem with this country is the Environmentalists have ruined it.” The assumption is that the agency that is so reviled must be the work of liberals, leftists or out and out communists. Ok,... Sign in to see full entry.

The 47 % solution

I don’t know why anyone would be surprised at what Mitt Romney said in the “secret” speech. Any conservative worth their angst will tell you about this ad-nauseum. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there are those that work the system and that is all the work they do, but I seriously doubt it’s anywhere... Sign in to see full entry.

Another silly headline

4-Year-old girl’s family sued over pink playhouse. It happened in Augusta, Georgia. A homeowners association brought the suit after complaints by neighbors who claim it is “too pink.” All I can say it it’s a good thing I’m not the judge they bring this case before or they would have something else... Which headline?

Two scream out at me for attention. Royals try to block more topless Kate photos. Parents debate whether it’s OK to let kids pee in public. Really? Why would the Kansas City Royals care one whit whether Kate wanders around topless? Heck, they might even enjoy such a majestic display, pun thoroughly... Sign in to see full entry.

The only real political point

It is fruitless to ague politics. No matter how carefully crafted an argument one can provide, there is little chance of swaying the opposing point of view. While many political viewpoints can be attributed to emotional rather than logical arguments, they nevertheless are firmly held viewpoints. At... Sign in to see full entry.

The facts man, just the facts.

Why do we allow politicians to misrepresent the facts? We are lazy, we only believe what we want to believe. It’s too hard to look into all those facts. It’s our fault. We let them get away with it. It’s easy enough to check up on what is being said, just go to factcheck.com. The recent conventions... Sign in to see full entry.
