Sometimes a picture is not a photo.
Or, something like that. Consider this shot. A gaggle of power lines, poles and signs is not something that normally draws a wistful eye. But frame it just so and it becomes a metaphor for our hectic lives with things going in all directions and a confusing array of guideposts meant to help us...

Frozen in time
Photos capture a moment. That moment can be anything you want it to be. Sometimes I take shots that I don’t have any plans for. Recently I ate breakfast at a diner in downtown Spokane. It is a true diner, a converted railroad car dripping with atmosphere. I took several pictures trying to capture...

Check out all the other photographers in this category, they are good. Look at what it is about those photos you find yourself drawn to. Check out a photography magazine from the library. Read the National Geographic Magazines at your mother’s house. The equipment you use, technical matters like...

You will also find a telephoto or zoom lens handy since the moon is pretty pitiful without some magnification. Of course, telephoto lenses magnify not only the image on film or digital sensor, they also...

Help name this kitten.
We have a new kitten and he doesn’t have a name yet. Rejected names are: Steve, Daffy, Clyde Dinky, Gray (he is currently mostly Grayson), Dweezle, Shadow, Zeke, well, you get the idea. The key to this photo was to go in close and use a flash since the lamp behind him would have been way too much...
