ZARRAH....DAY 56...SICK KID'S HOSPITAL TORONTO...GI CONTRAST STUDY?!
Well because Zarrah was continuously vomiting up black or yellow gunky stuff, the surgeons decided to try do a Gastrointestinal Contrast study. They would basically feed Zarrah some milk, and watch it go through her system, to see how long it takes her to process or digest it. Zarrah was almost 2...

Well this week didn't seem very progressive. Zarrah's issue's now are mainly feeding. Her surgery site from the initial omphalocele has healed nicely. Now we have to figure out how to get enough food into her to get her growing. We have her on a very high calorie formula which is VERY difficult for...

STRESSES IN MY "PLASTIC BUBBLE"...DEC 15-21ST...6-7 WEEKS
Well this week was full of stresses, coming from here, there and everywhere. We had just passed the 'maximum' time it was initially thought that Zarrah would be out of the hospital. And it seems like we're not even close yet. Xmas is almost here and we should be home as a family. My parner just had...

Zarrah...Dec 8-14th...5-6 weeks old.. Well Zarrah progressed well this week. She hit 7lbs and got transferred from the NICU to 5b (surgical floor). We were in the observation room for a couple of nights with 4 other patients, and then moved to our own room. Nothing really changed, we had all the...

ZARRAH....Dec 1-7 2004....3-4 weeks old....
Well the next week we had a few bumps in the road, but Zarrah moved forward, albeit slowly. As I became more comfortable in the NICU, I was able to help out more with Zarrah and even question some of the medical decisions. Zarrah's tummy still wasn't ready for milk yet, she was spitting up lots of...

Zarrah...Nov 24- Nov. 30th ...2-3 weeks old
The next week was really tough as Zarrah's condition really began to sink in. I was safe from the 'real world' in my 'plastic bubble of the NICU'. I slept very little, worried lots, talked with surgeons daily, pumped and froze breast milk every 4 hours. I was with Zarrah every day for at least 14...

How Do You Act in the NICU???
Before I ended up with my little one in the NICU, I'm not sure how I would have acted/re-acted to being there. It's not like a regular hospital waiting room, that's for sure. It's not proper to ask the other parents you see about how their baby is doing. In a regular doctors office you might chat in...

My NEW Routine....
Well I eventually got settled at Ronald McDonald House in Toronto on Friday, November 19. Zarrah was already 10 days old. It was nice to actually have a place to stay that was pretty comfy. The 'Breastpump' room at the NICU was always busy with people and 'The Residence' across the street was like a...
