Zarrah's GJ Tube Surgery

I went to my course to learn how to take care of Zarrah's 'soon-to-be' feeding tube and felt much better after. Knowledge is power ( at least that's what I tell myself). We turned Zarrah's feeds off at 4 am to get ready for the surgery. The IV came around 10am and poked and proded Zarrah TEN times... Sign in to see full entry.

Zarrah's Scheduled for Surgery Again.....But This One is 'Good'?!

If any surgery can be called 'good', it's this one. By having surgery to place a feeding tube for Zarrah, we'll finally be able to come home, after being in our 'plastic bubble' at Sick Kid's for almost 3 months...yikes! They will try and insert the gj tube through her side, into the top of her... Sign in to see full entry.

ZARRAH...MORE HURDLES STILL....A BIG BANG AND THEN PITCH BLACK...

After getting Zarrah's feeding tube back in place, it only took a few days to make up ground. Her tiresome issues are still the same. She's on high calorie formula to try and put weight on, this is too hard on her system, causing her to have bowel issues, and aggrevating her severe reflux. It's a... Sign in to see full entry.

ZARRAH...MOVING PAST ANOTHER SETBACK...

Because of the incident yesterday, Zarrah wasn't getting any feeds, until her NJ tube was put back in. Of course he weight dropped considerably, she's just under 9lbs at 3 months. The IV team came to put a line in, so she would get some fluids in the meantime. Unfortunately she missed 3 doses of her... Sign in to see full entry.

ZARRAH...THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM....

Well Zarrah and I have made it through 2.5 months at Sick Kid's in Toronto, and the past few days have been fairly calm. The surgeons are scheduling surgery for insert Zarrah's GJ (feeding tube), so that we can go home. Looking back in my journal, I can see that it really was time to get home.... DECIDING I NEED TO LEAVE THE HOSPITAL, BUT NOT WITHOUT ZARRAH..

After 'lashing out' the other day, I decided it was time to leave the hospital, but not without Zarrah. I didn't want Zarrah growing up in the hospital, she had already missed almost 3 months with her brother and sisters. We were stuck in a big circle, nothing really changing. I got the nurse... CRAZY HAIRED ZARRAH (10 WEEKS) LASHING OUT!!!

After living in the 'glass bubble' of Sick Kid's Hosptial in Toronto for 70 days so far, I guess my body figured it was time to start lashing out. Zarrah was progressing the same, and it seemed like we hadn't moved forward in about a month. She was getting most of her food via a feeding tube, and... Sign in to see full entry.

BABY ZARRAH'S PROGRESS AT 9 WEEKS OLD (SICK KID'S HOSPITAL TORONTO)

Zarrah's main issue is still feeding. Stomachs and bowels don't like to be touched. Zarrah's stomach is 'squished', from pushing the liver back in, and her bowel's were handled during her first surgery, less that 24 hours after she was born. Her stomach and bowel will eventually work in sync, at... Sign in to see full entry.

ZARRAH...SUNDAY, JANUARY 9TH 2004, DAY 60..GETTING RID OF NEGATIVITY!

I guess still being in the hosptial and missing my second youngests birthday, triggered the release of loads of negativity. Somehow I had to rid myself of this huge pot of guilt, saddness, hope, worry, jelousy. After 60 days in the Hospital For Sick Kids in Toronto, with my Zarrah, I needed to vent,... ZARRAH....JAN 6 - 8, 2005...Day 57-59 POPCORN SOUNDS AND CRAZY HAIR?!?!?

This week was full of more suprises for Zarrah and I, but we were still inching forward. My mood was okay, considering I had been at the hospital for 9 weeks now, away from my other 3 young kids that were back in Collingwood, 2.5 hrs away. Zarrah was on her feeding pump 20 hrs a day, with a 4 hour... Sign in to see full entry.
