TEMPORARY SURGERY BOOKING
Yesterday after Zarrah's nurse left I got a call from Dr. Kim's Office at Sick Kid's in Toronto wondering why I hadn't booked Zarrah's next surgery yet. A few months back her surgeon had suggested I book a time but I didn't think he really mean't it. This is one thing I just can't do. I'll change a...

Spreading Awareness... Emotionally
To start spreading awareness about 'omphalocele' babies like Zarrah, I volunteered to speak to my children's public school about it. I brought Zarrah's feeding pump and took Zarrah as my prop. It started out well with me explaining everything from the start. As the questions became more personal I...

People Act 'WEIRD' When They're Uncomfortable!
Yesterday my 4 kids and I made the 3 hr trek to my extended family Christmas where I grew up. It was great to see all my aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters, brothers, girlfriends, boyfriends and whoever else happened to drop in. It was a little different this year because I had my youngest Zarrah who...

One More Obstacle Surpassed...
Zarrah and I just got back from the unfortunately traumatic experience of having her gj feeding tube replaced. Although I think watching her throughout the procedure was harder than the actual event. Nobody can say that Zarrah’s not tough…and we whine about stubbing out toe or spraining our ankle…...

JUST 2 1/2 MORE DAYS OF TAPING!!??!??
Well we're hanging in there with Zarrah's leaking gj feeding tube. The medical tape isn't working anymore so I'm using a combination of syran wrap, baby wipes and duct tape. This is helping to keep leaks to a minimum. My concern now it that one of these times when I'm trying to tape it the end might...

Another 'Unscheduled' Trip to Toronto!
Well Zarrah has been inching her way along and after 10 months her gj feeding tube has started leaking...what a pain in the butt!!!! I have to make the 2.5 hr trip to Toronto to have it replaced. It should be done right away but with 4 kids I'm just not able to get there asap. For now I'm pretending...

WHAT NOW???
Well here's an update on Zarrah...she's sitting on the borderline like she's been doing this past year...she's 'sorta' tolerating her new 'superpower' toddler formula...the option of a fundoplication (tummy wrap ) surgery is still real...she's gaining a few gms here and there...still one big circle...

Zarrah's REALLY Moving Now!
It's sooo funny how kids adapt to what they can do. For Zarrah because of her surgery on her front and her feeding tube it is painful for her to lay on her tummy (makes sense!)...so she has missed an important step in crawling. So instead of crawling she has devised a means of scooting around on the...

JOURNALS ALMOST FINISHED...KNOCK ON WOOD!
Well I'm at 43 000 words right now and just about finished Zarrah's Journal. This is my daily diary from my pregnancy, through Zarrah's 3 month struggle in the hospital, and a little about our family adjustments after we finally got home. I've probably got another 4-5 000 words to go and then I've...

Zarrah...You're Making Me Nervous!!!
Just a few thoughts about Zarrah’s feeding issues. I’m writing now because I’m nervous, I have a feeling that Zarrah’s surgeon is going to convince me that the best option for her right now is to have a stomach wrap very soon, in order to help with her reflux issues and help her to grow. I spoke...
