I THINK ZARRAH IS WINNING!

The past 4-5 days Zarrah has been fighting off a pretty serious infection. We still aren't sure whether it's internal or not but the strong antibiotics seem to be holding tough. Zarrah's temperature has dropped to a low grade fever and she actually drank 3/4's of her bottle this morning. Everything... Sign in to see full entry.

Have You Ever Tried To Collect Pee From a Baby??! UUGGHH!

My littlest one has been quite sick the past few days and after swabbing this-that-and-everything my next task was to transport a few mls of urine from Zarrah to a plastic container. I thought it would be a piece of cake, boy was I wrong! They gave me a little baggie with a small sticky opening. My... Sign in to see full entry.

What Temperature is Really Dangerous?

Yesterday was a tough day for Zarrah. She was a little under the weather and wouldn't eat anything all day except a couple of small bottles. I was a little concerned because after her nap she was damp with sweat. Zarrah's temperature was 39.4 or 103 degrees, that startled me a little. I know that... Sign in to see full entry.

I Guess Anxiety and Bad Dreams Come Hand In Hand...

I know that my recent string of bad dreams are my mind working overtime with thoughts of Zarrah's next surgeries. I've never had them this 'regular' before. Remembering at least two or three times a night that I woke with my body drenched and my heart thudding recklessly. My thoughts are quite... Sign in to see full entry.

Having Some Trouble Dealing With Things....

I knew that eventually Zarrah would need another surgery to close her stomach muscles and I was pretty sure I could deal with that. It would sort of be like the 'closure' to all of her medical complications...her 'slow start.' Getting rid of her feeding tube and medications and moving on. Well now... Sign in to see full entry.

THE DATE HAS BEEN SET!

The surgeon has set Zarrah's surgery date for March 29th. She will have two surgeries; the closure of her stomach muscles and the fundoplication (wrap around her tummy to help with her reflux). I was hoping to avoid the latter but she needs it to help her grow. I knew this was coming but still... Sign in to see full entry.

I'm Getting Nervous For Zarrah...

I must admit I'm getting a little nervous for Zarrah. Tomorrow I head back down to Sick Kid's in Toronto for her appointment with Dr. Kim the following day. Luckily my partner is home to watch my other 3 for the day. At 8am Monday morning we will be deciding whether Zarrah needs one or two... Sign in to see full entry.

If Only I Could Bottle Up Zarrah's Metabolism!!!!

Just an update on Zarrah. Everything is pretty much the same. She is still on her losec, cisopride and oval 4 times a day, along with her daily glycerin tip. I'm concerned that the cisopride may eventually damage her heart, she's been on it almost a year. As for her surgeries she'll be having her... Sign in to see full entry.

SHOULD I JUST STOP HER MEDICATIONS AND TAKE OUT HER TUBE??

I know this sounds extreme but I'm wondering if I do something a little drastic, will this force Zarrah to step up to the plate or backfire? Zarrahs medications and feeding tube were never supposed to be in the picture and when they became necessary it was only supposed to be for 3-4 months. Well in... Sign in to see full entry.

THERE ARE NO 'BAD' CHILDREN!!!

Contrary to what many believe there are no 'bad' children. You can't be born nasty, you're a product of your environment. Yes genetics plays a small role in your character, maybe to have a short temper like your dad or are introverted like your mom. But you can't be 'genetically' bad. Kids that...
