The Reverend Grandma's 83rd Birthday

The other night, I went to Reverend Grandma's place to celebrate her birthday. It turns out that she wasn't planning on celebrating but the members of Mother Butler's Guild put up a surprise party for her. So the Reverend Grandma -- Mama Auring to her friends -- celebrated her 83rd birthday. Anyone... Sign in to see full entry.

Monica

Scholars would seem to prefer the later in view of recent archaeology. Monica is a North African saint of the Catholic Church, mother of another great saint,... Sign in to see full entry.

The Reverend Grandma

I call her the Reverend Grandma. She takes charge of the liturgical vestments in one of our chapels. She is white-haired, bent over with age and walks with a limp. Her daughters and grandchildren are all members of religious organizations in our parish. Some of them even help her take care of the... Sign in to see full entry.

Hope For The World

The "Roses of St. Rita" like the roses that bloomed in the dead of winter for Rita of Cascia present themselves to the world as signs that inspite of the evils of our times, there is reason to hope in the goodness of humanity and in the Providence of God. They are a bunch of school girls, at least... Sign in to see full entry.

Karaoke Girls

Monday afternoons, I go to a Karaoke bar to sing a few songs and drink a few glasses of beer. This Monday, I had the opportunity to be joined by a group of girls who thought that I was "too alone" to be normal. I asked them to pose for my cellphone cam and they did. Sign in to see full entry.

More Present Dead Than Alive

I got a call from W. L. this morning. She was formerly the Dean of the College of Commerce at the University of San Agustin-Iloilo. She called me up this morning to tell me about the burial of Fr. Rica which she attended and I missed. She knew Fr. Rica when she was still starting out in her teaching... Sign in to see full entry.

Looking For Grace

Grace C. is one of my working students. She graduated from the Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod with a degree in education in March 2003. She is the first among my girls to reach Manila and find employment there. Since her graduation, I maintained some contact with her. We communicated chiefly through... Sign in to see full entry.

Let's Watch Spiderman!

This afternoon, I received my cellphone bill in an envelop that was sent from the school where I used to work. It looks like the school's accounts department has not yet arranged a change in my billing account address, so my former secretary forwarded the bills to me. Inside the envelop were short...
