And So It Goes - Conclusion

~ Part 6 ~ Rather than get any more distracted by the past, she wanted to clean the house so that when her husband came home in the evening, that remarkable man who had stuck by her in spite of her late-in-life infidelity, it would be clean and free of clutter. The scrubbing and buffing would also help de-clutter and cleanse her mind and spirit of the underlying heartache that had been resurfacing that morning. She just needed to do some physical activity and work up a good sweat. She decided to... Sign in to see full entry.

And So It Goes ~5~

Part 5 “More coffee, anyone?” she managed to croak in her barely audible voice as she wearily got to her feet. Osteo-arthritis didn’t help the rigidity caused by the Parkinson’s. If she sat in one place too long, she might not be able to move at all, so she wasn’t one to stay put for any period of time. Without answering, her husband and daughter looked up at the same time and abruptly gathered their sunglasses and car keys. She must have brought them out of their newspaper article “reveries.”... And So It Goes ~4~

It only took a few minutes in real time to recall their entire conversation. It had been cordial, warm, and tragically sad. She lived two time zones ahead, she being on Central and he was on Pacific. So “the exactly one year ago” was still thirty minutes away. “I wonder if he has mental ‘date reminders’ like I do, too?” He used to make a big deal out of every significant date. She sighed and looked sadly at their two smiling dogs waiting at the French doors, wagging their tales, wanting to be... Sign in to see full entry.

"And So It Goes" Part ~3~

The sobs she tried to stifle had kept her from saying anything. She was concentrating on holding her breath. She had told him that the letter seemed to be written more to Jay and had been about her, rather than to her. It hadn’t been like the rest of his writing; this e-mail letter had sounded so wooden. Some of the words came directly from that page in the book, as if he had been using it as a reference point. She recognized that phrase or another, even cross-checked it with the book. Yes... "And So It Goes" Part ~3~ Her silent sobs had kept her from saying anything. She had told him that the letter seemed to be written more to Jay and to be about her, rather than to her. It wasn’t like the rest of his writing; this e-mail letter had sounded so wooden. Some of the words came directly from that page in the book, as if he had been using it as a reference point. The letter was pretty cold and unfeeling. It was meant to be although he denied that he was as cold as the letter made him... Sign in to see full entry.

And So It Goes ~2~

And So It Goes ~ Part Two ~ She sat at the breakfast table, her chin resting in her hand, elbow on the table, as she listened half-heartedly to the banter between two of the most precious souls she loved more than life itself. Her husband and daughter were caught up in a lively discussion about some Middle East crisis. It was punctuated with her daughter’s hearty laughter at some outrageous thing her father had just said. She was more interested in remembering what the calendar date had done to... Sign in to see full entry.

And So It Goes ~1~

~ Part One ~ She looked at the calendar, hanging on the refrigerator door, first thing that morning. She stood there reflecting upon what day it marked in her mind. She was still dressed in her blue flowered jammies, mules and holding her empty coffee cup. She scuffed across the kitchen floor to fill her cup with some steaming fresh Java Juice, stood at the kitchen sink instead, gazing into her back yard through the water-spotted window. “I’ve got to do some cleaning today,” she thought as her... And So It Goes

At the end of "Boston Legal" this week, they played this song that caught my attention. It also caught my husband's which I thought was a change. He guessed correctly that it was a Billy Joel song. I had the laptop open and I said I'd look it up. My face was not in his line of sight, and for that I was grateful. I started reading the lyrics and the first verse hit me like a slap in the face: In every heart there is a room, a sanctuary safe and strong, to heal the wounds from lovers past, until a... Pandora's Box?

I was taking time to finally catch up on reading some posts. One in particular got me to cut loose with a blog-sized response. Read proc's blog, a Change of Pace, http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/proc/453225 if you haven't already, because she asks some very good questions about today's take on sexuality and why is it such a powerful force. Perhaps a good question would be, once out of Pandora's box, can we ever again contain the mysteries of intercourse, romance, love, lust, all that we... Sign in to see full entry.

Love Affairs

I got a book today on Love Affairs. It's meant to strengthen marriage by understanding how love affairs happen. I hope to gain some insight into my own feelings and why I still miss the way I felt two years ago. I promised Jay over the weekend I wouldn't do that to him again. He said, "I am serious about this, Carole. I won't go through another you and Mike." The many things swirling through my emotions left me feeling so bereft that the tears came and I swore I would never do that again. He... Sign in to see full entry.
