august at home
the month of august here is hot and humid, the only good thing is that almost every afternoon here the thunderstorms start to build and if we are lucky we get rain. the weatherman calls them scattered showers. i call them sweet relief in the afternoon heat. everything is at its greenest in august...

whats in a name
in ancient babylon the days of the week are designated by the names of babylonian gods. ( iraq used to be babylon.) the first day was named for the sun-god shamash, the second for sin the moon-god, the third for nergal, the fourth for nabu, the fifth for marduk(bel), the sixth for ishtar (beltis)...
