Is Male Chauvanism Worse Here Than In The Real World?

Am I alone in noticing the differences in the way men speak to men, and men speak to women? For example if a woman (ok, me) responds to a political post men will often post a comment "thanks for your thoughts". Then they will go on to write half a page to a man who has commented.
