Reaping The Benefit Of Writing

Be well and happy, and as for the rest of you - be well and happy. If you want to write do so with passion and to the highest standard you can. To do less is to deny yourself something precious. Sign in to see full entry.

Farewell All: "I Want To Be The Kind Of Writer I Admire"

Fat chance of me being that kind of writer but until all hope is gone I won't quit. I heard the quote in the headline in an interview with the late Susan Sontag. She spoke of how all of us can write authentically but most don't give ourselves permission. It's been suggested that I should admit that... Sign in to see full entry.

Is Male Chauvanism Worse Here Than In The Real World?

Am I alone in noticing the differences in the way men speak to men, and men speak to women? For example if a woman (ok, me) responds to a political post men will often post a comment "thanks for your thoughts". Then they will go on to write half a page to a man who has commented. I call it FIF, the... Sign in to see full entry.

Why Are Similar Words Interpreted So Differently?

The idea for this post came from a comment I received on my post yesterday. "Being misunderstood is not an issue Seeing how some people react to my choices of words and posts and how they react to others' choices of words and posts is another. It seems I get berated and other get kudos. It's... Sign in to see full entry.

HOME TRUTHS: For Friends And Like Minds

I had planned this post differently to this. It was going to describe the truth as I see it about Blogit life. OK, So I Won't Be A Paperback Writer

The reviews savaged me. Who needs to have people tear their work down? Your politeness does not make your words any easier to bear. Novelists must have hides like elephants. When I submitted my hastily written attempt at the first page of a novel to the members of the Blogit Review I expected it to... Sign in to see full entry.

Go On, Call Me A Liberal. Call Me Anything You Want To

..within the bounds of taste and propriety. Why the US Arouses So Much Ire I'll keep it short. This is a summary of my thoughts. They are not dressed up in academic language or political theory. I'll just mention that some posts about politics are impenetrable. I am only glad I don't have to edit... Sign in to see full entry.

Have You Been Seduced By The Act Or The Idea of "It"?

What do you think of the very idea of being a writer and having a bestselling book, or being a top columnist? Yeah sure, I know that's what you want to "be". The real question is not about what you want to be but what you want to do? Do you want to be a writer or do you want to write?" There is a... Sign in to see full entry.

Does Your Pen Name Define You?

Do have a sexy pseudonym or do you write under your own name? The real name of the novelist George Eliot was Mary Ann Evans Cross. She adopted a man's name because she lived during a time when female authors were not accepted. Occasionally I use a pseudonym for newspaper articles so my name doesn't... Sign in to see full entry.
