Church Liturgies

To quote one of the commentators to this blog, "Does it really matter?" It seems one of the main characters in the New Testament merely said, "Wherever two or three shall be gathered together in my name, there shall I be also..." That doesn't sound as if there were any ritualistic requirements other... Sign in to see full entry.

Family Worship?

I know that large families used to gather together at a set time on a set day to worship together. Would this be considered a church service. If my reading of the New Testament is correct, then it would, indeed. I wonder if neighborhoods ever did that, or even if families and neighborhoods still do... Sign in to see full entry.

Tele-Churches

Many people stay home on the sabbath to watch services from one church or another on television. Could they be considered to be part of the congregation of the televised church? Must one be physically present with other congregants to be a bonefide member of the congragation? Sign in to see full entry.

Old Churches

Not far from me, in Portsmouth, Virginia, is Trinity Church (Episcopal I think), which was built in 1752, a beautiful church with a fascinating church yard. It contains some really old headstones. Check it out here: Trinity Church Sign in to see full entry.

Churches for convenience?

Perhaps a church is just a convenient place to get together to worship with those of similar beliefs. But, doesn't such a place, often too well defined by religious doctrine actually divide God's people? Spiritually, what is the difference between a devout Catholic and a devout Baptist, or a devout... Sign in to see full entry.

From the Bible Regarding Churches?

This seems to address what God thinks of churches: Acts 7:48,9 "Howbeit, the Most High dwelleth not in a temple made with hands....Heaven is my throne and earth is my footstool, What house will you build me?saith the Lord. Sign in to see full entry.

Pagan Symbology in Christian Churches

Aside from the obviousness of the cross, there is much symbology in most buildings designed as churches, subtle hints about that church's tehological beliefs. Some of the very early cathedrals had Pagan symbology carved into them to help bridge the gap between Christianity and the local Pagan... Sign in to see full entry.
