Church Accountings

Churches are big business in this country. Churches must meet some IRS requirements in order to take advantage of tax breaks. does anyone "eyball" these accounts? Are those who do look at the books outsiders, or those who serve to profit from what the church "earns"? I wonder if churches must hold... Sign in to see full entry.

Economic Churches

Many of today's churches and church services are just for enrichment of men and women who manage them. We see many such on television, but that is not all there is. If you go to a church that is more interested in your tithing than in your soul or even your earthly needs, then run out of that church... Sign in to see full entry.

Take Over A Church?

Has it ever happened that the congregation decided the goals of a particular church were not following the tenets of it's religion and, because of that, taken over the operation of the church? Who actually owns the physical church? Who decides the theology and morality that will be preaced from its... Sign in to see full entry.

Agnostic Church?

An agnostic is not certain there is or is not a god, or, if there is, what form that god might take. Do agnostics ever worship? do they have churches? What are the services like? Shared Churches

For instance, if a Protestant church shares its building with a Catholic congregation, one may have services in the morning, and the... Sign in to see full entry.

Church and Politics

Many of the mega-churches are getting involved in politics, with reverends preaching to their congregation regarding voting on candidates and issues. Personally, I think it is there right to do so, while I also believe it is not right for them to do so. I would not want my minister preaching... Sign in to see full entry.

How about Ad Hoc Churches?

What is an Ad Hoc Church? Just like it sounds, it is a church set up by a group of people for a specific purpose or for a specific reason, usually for a limited time. Perhaps a group of hunters, lost in the woods, decide to stop in a clearing to pray for guidance, geographic guidance. That place is... Sign in to see full entry.

Prison Churches

Prisons do not have a "church" as an independent building for worship. They use whatever room is available to them. One of my volunteer positions is to be the sponsor for a Wiccan group of inmates at a Virginia state correctional center. Our "church" during my visits is the same classroom that is... Chaplains in Battle Areas and Aboard Ship

Generally do not have a "Church Building" to conduct services. In the field, a service may be held in a bombed out building, in a field, or in a mess tent. When I was in the Navy, visiting chaplains, sometimes arriving by helo, held services on the mess decks (where sailors eat their meals) or,... Sign in to see full entry.
