Commercial Rewards

In addition to the gain of pure knowledge, which is the primary reason I'd like to have us visit Mars, think of the treasures in the planet that we could use. We'd better get to Mars soon

Scientists keep deeming other rocks as planets; soon we'll have more planets than we have time to visit! Need every big rock be a planet? The First Step to Mars is the Moon.

And we have already been there, so it should be a logical project to now build a Moon Base from which to explore the rest of our solar system. I get the disturbing feeling

that our leaders, the general public and "wise" pundits still do0 not understand the value of space exploration. They see expenditures in space exploration as a drain on our resources rather than as an investment in our future. Telling it straight, we, as humans, will not survive without space...
