Gigging, and Types

What sort of gigs should a band seek? This all depends on locations, in ways. But today I'm talking about two different kinds of gigs. Side Show: These are the types of shows, where your band is the added excitement, or hype. For example: Once, a local racetrack around here was having it's final... Sign in to see full entry.

Naked Music

Naked music....What a rush., My favorite kind of show........ What I'm calling Naked music, is "stripped down" music. Acoustic shows, pretty much. My band, which I refer to often, has landed a regular gig. This will sound odd, but, it's at a steakhouse....Okay, go ahead, laugh it up. I understand. A... Sign in to see full entry.

Selection of band members

As you may know, my band got a new guitar player. Well, it lasted a whole two days. Today we'll be talking about the selection of band members. Whether you're just starting a band, and looking for the first members, or you already have a band, and you're replacing members, or simply adding them,... Sign in to see full entry.

Depth Part two: Live sound

In my last blog here, I discussed depth, in relation to recording. Now we will discuss it as far as live sound goes. I have one natural rule, simple live sound, is the best. However, it depends on many factors. If you have a good sound man, you can set up many intruments and layers, and it sound... Sign in to see full entry.

Depth

My Band, is a 3 piece band. Guitar, Bass, and drums. That's the most common set up anymore. However, when recording, we sometimes record 3 and 4 different guitars. And use all of them. One is mostly acoustic, then you have the electric parts, and then any guitar solos, ect. ect. Also you have the... Sign in to see full entry.

Why is it so hard for bands to get paid?

Okay, I'm so tired it's not even funny. I just got back from a local race track, where my band played. It was the season finals, kind of a big deal. We landed this gig, because lots of people go there, and we thought we might get some CD sales. Plus, a good outside concert is good once in a while I... Sign in to see full entry.

recording techniques over-rated ???

Gee, I'm sure it's hard to tell my reading this blog, but I have a band. I know that suprises you. And we record on a regular basis, and make albums to sell at our concerts. I'm a very firm believer that our music matches, or surpasses anything you hear on the radio. Yet as we do live in the middle... Sign in to see full entry.

MP3's part two

This is part two of MP3's be they good or evil? I'd like to briefly overview now another reason why downloading MP3s on the net is GOOD for the music industry. Well, it helps unknown, unsigned bands, get well known. To put it simply, a band could get an mp3 on kazaa or something, and get some people... Sign in to see full entry.

MP3s good, or perhaps evil????

In Music the on going debate against MP3s, and for MP3s, continues. Although it has calmed down a bit, it still continues. I'm sure everyone here remembers Napster, right? Record companies, along with many artist, ended up getting it shut down. Record companies said that it "stole" from the music... Sign in to see full entry.

The Underground music movement today

Underground takes over? What is underground music? Different people have different definitions. But most agree that it's music that is not "mainstream". Music that is not on major labels, or music that is independent. Chances are that if you are reading this you have somewhat of an understanding of... Sign in to see full entry.
