Not One Damn Dime Day

Tomorrow, Jan. 20, which is Inauguration Day for President Bush, is also Not One Damn Dime Day. It's a movement started by people unhappy with the Bush administration and the war in Iraq. We are not spending one damn dime tomorrow, all day, from midnight tonight to midnight Thursday. Yes, many will... Sign in to see full entry.

Thoughts on Life and Ants

I had some recently; thoughts on life, that is. I've been reading about the ongoing battle between what will be taught in schools: creationism or evolution. Looks like we may be headed for a trip back to pre-Scopes Monkey Trial days. Too big a subject for right now. Then we have the people who want... Sign in to see full entry.

Happy Birthday!

Today is my husband's birthday, so this is a tribute to him. He doesn't blog or read Blogit, but I want to cast this into the universe for him. He's a great guy, smart, funny, brave, a terrific father, even-tempered, has put up with me for 40 years (next week), my best friend, my partner, and my... Sign in to see full entry.

Life's a Bitch, and Then . . .

At the risk of this turning into Witchflower's Garden of Bitchiness, I do want to bitch and whine a little. If you don't need to hear someone else carry on today, click off. This has not been a good day. Last week, I was very high on my job, happy with my annual evaluation, things were going... Sign in to see full entry.

Another carcass heard from

It happened again, this time to me. Today, we had our annual Holiday Dinner at work, complete with four turkeys and the trimmings, as they say, plus various potluck dishes. It was very good. Toward the end of the meal, drawings were held for gift cards from a local grocery chain and Target. Then... Sign in to see full entry.

Stop It!

Here’s my problem. I’d really like to know if anyone else has this problem, and if so, what they have done about it. I hate crunching. I mean, I hate it. I don’t mind when I do it. I guess I should say, I hate the sound of crunching. While I am an incurable ice-cruncher myself, I can’t stand the... Sign in to see full entry.

Like I've Been Punched

I've just finished watching Fahrenheit 9/11, the documentary by Michael Moore, and I'm feeling a little ill, as if I had just been attacked by someone. Not just because of the stuff about Bush and members of his administration; I already knew most of that. It was just a very graphic view of the war... Sign in to see full entry.

Yale, and Then What?

"Two candidates for President, offering two directions for America. They are men of the same generation, Yale graduates from privileged New England families, but they took starkly different paths as they formed their values and politics." The quote is from "The Choice 2004," which is a production of... Sign in to see full entry.

Look up, Chicken Little, It's Good Vibrations

More earthy stuff. Why is the sky blue? I have a friend who is an artist. She sees things differently and sometimes more deeply than other people. She asked me three short questions this morning, the third of which was, why is the sky blue? (The other two don’t matter.) I answered the third, "dust."... Sign in to see full entry.

I'm on Fire . . .

Fire. It's interesting to me that fire doesn't exist in our natural world for the taking. Look at the four elements: Air, Fire, Water, Earth. You can find water; there is earth all around; the wind will blow, creating energy. But fire. In elemental nature, there is no place I know of to just go and... Sign in to see full entry.
