Freedom Writers
Freedom Writers is a rare movie. It showed a kind of heroism that did not require Hollywood manufactured explosions and violence. Hillary Swanks' character portrayed a teacher who is shocked by the militant lifestyle her students are living daily. She becomes someone who exposes them to literature,...

Plastic Poison
It is the secret code, the hidden truth, the holy grail of my generation. Male domination. Sex appeal at any and all costs. It's sellers are Eminem, Christina Aguillera and Britney Spears-each proclaim women sex objects, only sex objects, to be controlled by men. Spears and Aquillera with men...

Five Stages of Grief
I just read aboutthe five stages of grief; isolation and denial, anger, bargaining with God, depression and acceptance. For me most of these stages have lasted for years. Denial; I buried the memory of the rape. I just refused to remember. That doesn't mean all of the emotional fallout wasn't there....

What Does Race Have to Do With Leadership?
I am sick of articles aimed picking up on a candidates race and magnifying it. Will the blacks vote for Hillary because she's a white woman? Will the blacks vote for Barack because he's an African American? Is Barak unworthy of the black vote because he has a white mother? Will women vote for...

Thoughts on Being a Survivor....
So many emotions running through me. I never thought healing could be so painful or so hard. I feel so much rage. I want to hurt someone, lash out-anything. Why? Why me? I see my sister (14 years old) and feel jealousy. She has so much self-confidence, so much energy, she's so sure of herself. I see...

April 27, 2007
Today is better than most. I received a really sweet comment from my boyfriend's daughter. It was exactly what I needed to make the day brighter. A couple weeks ago I confided to my therapist that I was having flashbacks of being raped by an older classmate in fourth grade. At first I thought that...

Got My Geek On!
Yesterday was a long day of Science Fiction/Fantasy geekdom at Penguicon. Started the day early at 8 am with hubby driving to get his daughter. Ended up enjoying a surprisingly good breakfast at BK (Sausage/Egg Croisant Sandwhich with hashbrowns) due to us getting there early. Got to the Troy Hilton...

Anybody Else Think $40 an Hour for Singing Lessons is Way Too Much?
I have tried to find local singing lessons but can only find rates of $35 to $40 an hour. Does this strike anybody else as ridiculously expensive? Of course the excuse is that a P.H.D and Masters entitles them to price gouge and they're just doing what everybody else does. The #1 reason is that...

Do Movies Like TMNT Encourage the Impossibly Thin Female Stereotype?
I watched the new Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles movie with my boyfriend today. All in all, pretty good. Some modern day science fiction thrown in with CGI. Not nearly as campy as the live action movies. The only thing that bothered me was how April and a female Foot Clan leader was drawn. Once...

Depression is not caused by the Devil!!!!
I work out at a local gym about three days a week. It's something that helps me deal with the depression and just feel better about myself. Anyways, last time I went I started talking to a woman that knew me when I worked there last year. I told her about the whole depression thing. What was her...
