It takes the right genes to be a CxO
I have often wondered what it takes to be a successful CEO, CIO, CTO, or COO. Well, I guess the qualities are probably the same for any chief in any company. What is it that distinguishes the successful guys from the unsuccessful, er, failures? I'm not including CFO's, because the only ones I personally know really are just glorified bean counters, but to be fair, I should probably include them as well. My current employer has undergone a reorganization these last few weeks. It's amazing to me...

Working on a dream
After another hot day, though not unbearably hot, in St. Louis, I'm retiring for the night. It's actually been quite a productive day. Despite a restless night (I only got 2 hours of sleep last night, not counting the restless sleep I got on the flights over), and four....yes, count them FOUR coma-inducing presentations, I found the energy to shoot some baskets with the coworkers, drink a few drinks at Dave & Buster's, play a few video games, and then use the exercise room at the Hilton for 1.5...

Buck the trend
It seems like even though I have the desire to write (and by that, I really mean update my blogs), that I don't have enough of a desire because I'm certainly not making time for it. It's been about three days since I did any blogging, I think, and that's probably a reflection of how summer is going to be. Between work, working out, volleyball, yoga, video games, and seeing my friends outside of any of those activities, I'm not leaving much time for myself. I'm sure that most people need a nice,...

I am a wildly burning flame.
I realized in my yoga class that I am currently a wildly burning flame. I have not always been so. At times, I would best be described as a raging firestorm, and at others I have been but a weakly smoldering flame, but not so this summer. I am burning wildly. It was all I could do to control my impulses as I sat myself down cross-legged and attempted to focus on my breath. It was a very bad day to be boisterous, as the class was more full than I have ever seen it be. There were seven people,...

Caring for Jojo the Pekingese
It goes without saying that Jojo is the cutest Pekingese that ever was. I have not forgotten to take pictures of him and put them up. I just haven't had the opportunity to get any pics as he is off in San Francisco with my best friend's mother, my godmother, and I haven't seen him since Sunday when he couldn't be bothered to wake up anyway. I thought I would share the stories I have been hearing daily however. I'm hoping to see for myself soon how he is doing. Probably this weekend, I would...

Am I the only credit card idiot, or are you one too?
I used to think it was plain as day, but today I learned that the covert world behind the innocuous plastic credit cards we all wave about as though they had real value is not as simple as it would seem. I mean, what seems complicated about credit? I defer charges for say....these melons by swiping my credit card through the slot at the cashier. I know that in reality, my credit card company, The Faceless Institution behind my SONY card, will pay for the melons for me, and then once a month,...

The Great Name Chase for the Pekingese
A few days ago I wrote about the cutest little black ball of fur that my best friend bought for her mom. As of that point, she hadn't figured out a name, but she couldn't very well keep calling her pooch 'Dog', or else that would become its name. Actually, 'Dog' is a name that I would give to a dog if I had one, or maybe 'Dawg', but dogs can't spell anyway, so what would be the difference? Muchas gracias, Benzinha, for your name ideas. I thought they were great, but ultimately, I was not the one...

Now that's service!
I must say, in this service-oriented culture of our's, it is nice to see that some restaurants still place that above everything else, even the dinner experience. When I stepped into The Olde Spaghetti Factory tonight, I knew that I was in for a treat. I was meeting two friends there for dinner, but as luck would have it, I was the first to arrive, so I asked for our table. Thirty minutes, was what the hostess informed me, a duration I was willing to wait. The waiting area was barely busy, but...

Glorious!
Today has possibly been the best day of what may turn out to be the best summer I have yet head in my thirty years of living. A nagging voice inside me head reminds me that I just may have said something to this effect every year, but then the rest me of responds why can't I enjoy every summer season as the best I have ever had? It means that my life is continually getting better! If there were one thing I would have improved about today, it would have been the weather. As is usual on Sundays, I...

Is there any cuter dog than a pekingese?
I never gave it much thought before, but now I know that my aunt has a pekingese. Thanks to my best friend and the little black ball of fur she's been eyeballing. I like dogs, and I know a few of these breeds, but if you marched 20 dogs of 20 different breeds past me, I'd probably be able to correctly identify 10 of them. Of course, if you marched 100 dogs of 100 different breeds past me, I'd still be able to only correctly identify 10 of them. But yes, I love dogs because I love animals in...
