Almost Nothing
That's what I felt the last time I saw her. I was distracted and running around like a chicken with his head cut off for part of the day, and I was happily enjoying my friends' company for another large part of the day. There were only about 200 people meandering through the park enjoying the sun, fun company, and a day of good volleyball. Small wonder that I didn't even notice her until the day was half over, even though she had likely been sitting a scant ten feet away for I don't know how...

"I'm ready to be married."
I've heard these words before, and not just from my best friend, but that is exactly how she kicked off our conversation last night after dinner and on the drive back to my home. Sometimes I really feel for her. Actually, I always feel for her, my poor dear best friend. I can't wait for her to be married, either, because she seems to be in a place in life now where there isn't much for her to do but to wait for her next stage of life to begin. I guess that would be building that long term...

Torture condoned by the U.S. Government!
I read an interesting article today from Montefiore referencing the Geneva conventions. These protocols deal with the humane treatment of prisoners of war. I've always thought it was interesting that we (the human race) would impose policies on what can and can not be done in times of war. I guess that underlying assumption is that we are all rational creatures, and on some level, whether or not we are trusted friends or bitter enemies, we all work together to advance the evolution of the human...

"I'm flattered that you asked me on a date. No one does that anymore."
"Nowadays, guys don't do that anymore. They're all so passive." OK, I know what you're thinking. This chick must be butt ugly if guys aren't asking her out anymore. Or else she has some major character flaw that makes itself prominent once a guy gets to know her and causes him to cross her off the list. And speaking of prominent, maybe she has some outrageous growth on her face that disqualifies her from the dating game. OK, that last one wasn't too PC or funny, but I can assure you that this...

Blogstalking. OK, Internet Stalking at large
It's hopefully a concept at the fringes of everyone's consciousness at the least from time to time, whether you are a stalker or a stalkee. Because you are. We all are potentially stalkers or stalkees, and it's so easy nowadays to fall into either category. With no surprise to anyone, parents are most concerned about their children. How many avenues exist now for an unwary child to wander towards the boogie man that didn't exist before computers and internet access got so darned convenient and...

Gloriosity Deflated
The weekend was glorious, as I posted in my Salutations blog, but ok, this title is somewhat incorrect as what happened this morning has not deflated it. Actually, I don't really know how to put the words together in a form in which I would be happy. Thoughts are slow, swimming through molasses, but I want to put these down anyway....... Beep beep! At 1 am my cell phone rang, but it wasn't the ring of an incoming phone call. It was the ring of a received message. In my waking stupor, I had to...

Coud this be destiny wrapping her cold hands around me?
Yes, this is somewhat troubling. To most people, the prospect of meeting someone with whom you just 'click' and get along with in such a care-free manner is a thrilling prospect, and yes, it is to me as well, but it is also troubling. Yes, yes. What the heck is theelbster talking about? I'm talking about my friend's friend, now my friend J, who I have now seen only for the second time in three weeks, but she is quite the hottie. Great looking, intelligent, outspoken, opinionated, idealistic,...

Please lock down your wireless access points!
People are much better at doing this nowadays than they used to be as recently as a year ago, but there's still room for improvement! In this world closer to "plug and play" than "plug and pray", it is easy to forget that even if something works out of the box, it probably can create a huge security hole in your castle (your home). Actually, wireless routers are pretty darned easy to set up nowadays to work with DSL or cable modem, but an enterprising young soul, like myself, who reads up on the...

Talking just confuses the issue
How many of us simply love to talk about the issue du jour, but not just talk about it, talk it into the ground, far beyond the time it should have been dead and buried? I've been thinking about this topic quite a lot recently. Actually, even more than a lot. Of course it's important to talk through issues, to debate, to argue, to present -- in short, to communicate. At what point, though, does communication cease to truly be communication but instead become rumination, mastication, and rehash...

It may be Tuesday, but it must be Monday!
I don't think I've started a day as crappy as today for a few year's now. Shortly after I got out of bed, showered, and changed to go to work, I fell into a trap, something worthy of my most painful blog, except that no one got hurt. If only I'd broken a toe... Innocently, I opened my refrigerator to scavenge breakfast from the boxes and cartons left inside, when an open two-litter bottle of soda fell right into my lap. Maybe it's good luck, or maybe it's just my reflexes that caused me to catch...
