Being a sponsor is wonderful.

I am lucky. My first sponsee is very willing and wants to stay clean. She had a taste of sobriety and didn't want to relapse again, so she did her first step. When her sponsor wasn't available, she looked for another one and I walked into the room at the right time and she picked me. That same day,... Sign in to see full entry.

About Anger

Some of you commented on how anger is a normal human emotion. That is correct, but it is an emotion that gets alcoholics in trouble. Anger fuels our desire to drink. Underneath anger is fear and that is what we must focus on. Why are we afraid? What can we do to give ourselves courage to face our... Sign in to see full entry.

Anger

In AA I was told never to get angry. Alcoholics don't know how to have righteous indignation. Anger is always the beginning o a resentment. Resentments cause us to go out and drink again. I haven't heart this yet in NA. I get angry. I yet and I swear occasionally. This upsets my daughters since they... Sign in to see full entry.

Double Dipper

I go to both A.A. and N.A. I am not addicted to any drug other than alcohol, but I started going to N.A. because other house members were going also. The group I'm going to meets seven days a week and has a lot of new people. But it is like a family and I love the people in the group. It is a place... Sign in to see full entry.

Restlessness

Becoming restless is one of the stages of early recovery. It is also a warning sign. I had a counselor once say that stopping using is a lot of work. When you stop doing something, it is very hard. You aren't adding anything to your life but taking away a large part of yourself. All those hours... Sign in to see full entry.

Self focused not self centered

One of the paradoxes of recovery is learning to focus on ourselve sand also learning to be less self-centered at the same time. So what does it mean to be self-centered? It means to want everything done our way and to only be interested in ourselves. What does it mean to focus on ourselves? It means... Sign in to see full entry.

The fuck its

This may sound strange, but one of the things that leads to immediate relapse is when you say to yourself. Fuck it this isn't working, I'll go back to using. I'm fucked either way. The source of this thinking is impatience and the feeling that things will always be the same no matter what you do.... Sign in to see full entry.

Early Recovery

is very difficult. We are in crisis all the time. Everything needs to be changed all at once, but of course, it can't be done. So we must prioritize. The first priority is our recovery. We must place ourselves in a safe environment. We must give up our using friends, move out of a place with using... Sign in to see full entry.

Feelings

The hardest part of recovery is dealing with feelings. Drugs, alcohol. sex and gambling numbs the pain. Recovery means living without the pain killer. So now we experience physical pain, mental pain and worst of all spiritual and emotional pain. We feel guilt and shame for the first time in years.... Sign in to see full entry.

Preventing Relapse

The way you prevent relapse is that you take care of yourself. You don't isolate, go without eating, and get too tired. You deal with resentments, your emotional issues, and anger. When you are vulnerable, you tell people about it. You avoid people whom you used with, places where you used and... Sign in to see full entry.
