The Simple
Of course we have a modern Tube System to transport specimens and reports to different floors. Some reports get sent over the computer...we have one that still actually gets printed out the old fashioned way and tube delivered to the E.R. I have taken it even a step further toward those "old days"...

Malaria Case
A patient diagnosed with 16% Falciparum Malaria in Africa on June 9th was shipped home because she was not getting better on Malarone. The Binax test is a strong positive but all of her blood smears are negative. Why?? She also has Black Water Fever, therefore, the Infectious Disease Doctors think...

More Work and Boss Out
Trying to get used to some new procedures and additional work on the second shift. Employees, of course, are complaining. What's new with that? I have had a lot of extra hours over the past few weeks, and have noticed some things that I would like to see changed. Unfortunately, the boss is out with...

Sarah Elizabeth
Sarah Eiizabeth has a brain tumor. The doctors are at a loss. There is nothing more they can do. Sarah awakes once in a while to eat or to smile or to hold her mom's hand. Her mom is not giving up. She stays with Sarah constantly night and day. Such a bond between mother and child. It brings me to...

The Swine Flu
Well, so much for flu season being over. A new surge has begun with this threat of the Swine Flu. It may be an over reaction, but who really knows? I have a feeling it may taper off and then come back full force in the Fall. But, as for now, the Emergency Room has become a very busy place, thus...

Flu Tests
I am grateful that flu season is over. Or at least close to over. Running those tests adds a lot of extra work, which is fine, except that each flu test takes 15 minutes and they straggle in all day. That makes it hard to run them in batches and it seems like we are always being pulled away from...

An Amazing Young Man!
Elliot still has no evidence of cancer. May he remain cancer -free forever! But the treatment has made him exceptionally weak and has damaged parts of his brain that control many of his motor skills. He now lives in a home for the disabled. Elliot is 17. Thankfully he has a supportive family, many...
