This is East Channel Light Station, Munising, MI, one of my favorite places in the UP. I took this shot a couple of years ago while on the Pictured Rocks Cruise out of Munising. It was a cold overcast windy day in October on one of the last cruises before they closed for the season. Sign in to see full entry.

I first spied this scene about two years ago about this time of the year... late April, early May. When I had the chance to go back with my camera, the grass and ' woody herbaceous ' plants had grown around it, blocking the view of it. I missed it last year because of some other issues, but this... Sign in to see full entry.

To Bee or Not To Bee

You've seen them flitting around your yard, landing on flowers, even dandelions, searching for nectar that will be used for food. I can't remember when I took this photo, but I remember laying on the ground for half an hour trying to get one this close. Over the course of several days, I got four... Sign in to see full entry.

A Mackinaw Morning

This was taken as I was coming home early one morning after a trip downstate. The view is on the Lake Michigan side of the south end of the bridge. As you can see, it was rather foggy.Just for some perspective, this bridge is over 5.75 miles long! That faint mound in the background the first arch is... Sign in to see full entry.

Unusual Flower

I love flowers! I took two semesters of botony in college and I have bought special lenses that allow me to get close to them This is a Great White Trillium flower that I found out in the Seney National Wildlife Refuge. You don't see them all the time, so when I found it, I snapped a photo of it!... Sign in to see full entry.

Another shot from last fall. I was walking toward a lake and the simple beauty of this view. I'd walked this area several times and more than once, I'd seen deer just grazing along the tree line. There weren't any deer this day, but the scenery is still a present to the eye. Sign in to see full entry.

The Great Marsh

An evening on Grand Marais bay on the Lake Superior shore is always a good thing. Grand Marais was named by French settlers and it meant 'Great Marsh.' It' a small but bustling little town, population of 300, but you'd never guess that by the traffic there. As I've mentioned before, the color in the... Sign in to see full entry.

A View To Heaven

Usually, this area is one of my last posts of the morning, but because I needed something beautiful to think about, I'm making it my first. This magnificent view is Grand Lake in the Lower Peninsula in Presque Isle County, just to the south and east of the Mighty Mackinaw Bridge (AKA 'The Mighty... Sign in to see full entry.

I have a couple of 'close up' lenses that allow me to get fine detail at a short distance. I saw these butterflies flitting about, so I slipped one of them on. It took about ten minutes of waiting, but I finally got a couple shots like this one. Note the defensive patterns on the wings hat make it... Sign in to see full entry.

Loon with Pike

Another picture from my trip out to the Seney National Wildlife Refuge the other day. I saw this loon making little dives under the water, but couldn't quite see what he was doing. With so many preditory birds such as eagles and hawks, even a big loon has to watch its back, and it took a bit to get... Sign in to see full entry.
