Frozen Falls

This is the Munising Falls taken last January. The water flow that is fed by the Munising Creek diminishes substantially during the late summer and the winter, allowing it to freeze almost solid. This is part of the Pictured Rock National Lakeshore Refuge. Sign in to see full entry.

Christmas Day At The Tahquamenon Falls

I couldn't find a reason to stay home yesterday, so I journeyed about 35 minutes north of me to visit the Tahquamenon Falls. Not surprisingly, there were about 75 to 100 people there on Christmas Day. Who could blame them? Beauty such as this is worth the chill and the drive. *In response to... Sign in to see full entry.

Tobacco River in the Keweenaw Peninsula

Not to hurt anyone's feelings, but 'Baby, It's Cold Outside!' This is the Tobacco River located on the Keweenaw Peninsula. As you can easily see, the normally fast flowing river is freezing over! You can see its turbulence is losing the battle to the tempature. Crazy ain't it? This was taken... Sign in to see full entry.

These are extremely rare to find like this as more and more property is being developed for a burgeoning population. The genus/species for this flower is Cypripedium reginae where the word 'reginae' means 'of... Sign in to see full entry.

Just A Meme Today

I'm not big on 'meme's,' those little photos with something clever written on them... and usually at least one or more of the words are misspelled... but this one hit home with me for obvious reasons. This is northeast of Munising about twelve miles along the Superior coast. The stone formation is... Sign in to see full entry.

Sunset On The Dead River

The forty-four mile long Dead River is about ten miles northwest of Marquette Michigan, having five different hydroelectric producing dams along its way out to Lake Superior. In 2003, one of those dams at Silver Lake gave way, causing over nine BILLION gallons of water to roar down the way. The next... Sign in to see full entry.

In My Little Town

Nothing super interesting today, but I wanted to show you what a small town Upper Peninsula Road Commission yard looks like as it preps to deal with a projected 280 to 300" of snow. This is the storage and repair area for all of the snowplowing and repair vehicles of the Luce County Road Commission,... Sign in to see full entry.

Little Boy Eagle Growing Up

My little guy has 'combed' his hair now, or so it would appear. He decided to look into the wind, and tucked his feathers back down, making him look a bit more dignified. You can see that regal look that is about to come, lurking just behind the youthfulness. Sign in to see full entry.
