A Pink Lady Slipper

I was diddly-bopping along in the forest the other day, and spotted this beauty hiding along the base of a big ol' pine tree. Cute little thing, ain't it? Sign in to see full entry.

Such A Big Girl!

I'm fairly sure that I have seen this big female before, but just as I got the Nikon fired up to catch her, she took off. Camera shy I suppose. This was a big, full grown adult bird. I guesstimate that she was about 34" tall, based on the size of the tree and her wing span. No matter how you say it,... Sign in to see full entry.

Lane Cove - Isle Royale

This is a site and place that very few people will ever see. This is on the northwest corner of Isle Royale, located in the northwest part of Lake Superior. It costs about $125 per person for round trip transportation by boat. Once there, you have to rent an ORV (Off-Road Vehicle) or hire someone to... Sign in to see full entry.

Moose!

While I was out walking yesterday, I caught this young man walking on the edge of an area of marshy tall grasses. Moose are not ususally herd creatures. They do run in herds at times, but most of the time, they are lone creatures. While I startled him, he wasn't interested in running away from me. Sign in to see full entry.

Mossy Rocks

I found a damp area in the forest where these moss and lichen covered rocks were all over. From my geology courses, I'd say that these stone were dropped by a retreating ice mass. Looking For Shade

This little guy was out and about the forest floor yesterday. He came into an open spot that was quite sun-drenched. Being that it was very sunny and unusually warm for the UP, he took refuge under a fern frond. Sign in to see full entry.

A Trumpeter Swan in Flight

One of the good things I learned taking racing photos in the infield of a dirt track for fifteen years was quick reflexes. As I was out walking yesterday, this big Trumpeter Swan came cruising through at high rate of speed. I caught him almost perfectly. Sign in to see full entry.

A Mystical Creature

This creature is rarely seen, and has caused a lot of panic when seen in herds. I've seen them in ones and twos, but never more than that. These are called 'Jackalopes.' They have a wide area of habitation, but are most prevalent in the UP of Michigan. The link I've incldued gives much more... Sign in to see full entry.
