We first made friends with the Leydig family the summer before my senior year when we all worked the strawberry harvest for a grower in the valley. Harlan was probably the fastest picker among us, and we were highly motivated to work fast. At a nickel a quart, we could make well over a dollar an... Sign in to see full entry.

NAME DROP, UPDATE
Later news report state both cell phone users must agree to share using the Name Drop feature, and the two cell phones must be next to each other for a short period of time. I'm thinking it's still wise to be cautious especially if the other party is someone you don't know well. Kids especially... Sign in to see full entry.

THE GRIO AWARDS
Until a couple days ago I had never heard of the Grio Awards. I was watching some forgettable program and counting stitches on a scarf I was crocheting when I grabbed the remote to get away from "news." There was a listing on CBS: the Grio Awards. Nosy me, I had to find out what the heck that was.... Sign in to see full entry.

WHAT THUMPER'S MOM SAID...
The Disney movie "Bambi" was a gazillion years ago, but I can still recall scenes from it. There was one that particularly caught my imagination. Little fawn Bambi is out learning to walk and "reading" the forest, learning the words for things. He sticks his nose in a blossom, and his little friend... Sign in to see full entry.

RIP Rosalynn Carter.
The former First Lady, wife of 77 years to the former President Jimmy Carter, passed away yesterday, just one day after we learned she was entering hospice to be treated for dementia. The Carters were a light in this dark world, a shining example of kindness and caring for others. There were times... Sign in to see full entry.

LET A SMILE BE YOUR UMBRELLA
There's a new late-night show on CBS - "Comics Unleashed." Byron Allen hosts a rotating guest panel of stand-up comics, some well-known, others less familiar. It is a get-to-know-you show, he brings up a topic or asks a question, and his four or five guests respond. Sometimes it's about how they got... Sign in to see full entry.
