Luparev’s clothes were strewn around the cage, along with some vodka, and he was found lying in a pool of blood underneath the bird.... Sign in to see full entry.

And Today's Special is...

In the wake of the tainted pet food scare, there’s a new demand for recipes for homemade dog and cat food, such as “spoiled sheepdog stew”, made from lamb, rice and vegetables. Others, such as “peanut butter doggie cookies” are reportedly so good that they tempt the cooks to lie down with the dogs.... Sign in to see full entry.

Tombs and Mistresses...

Beijing is outlawing "tomb futures", a practice of buying and selling tombs as speculative investment. The crackdown follows repeated scams, in which cemeteries sell non-existent burial plots in the land-starved nation. Investors believed the plots would appreciate in value. The government is also... It's spring, we'll be heading into the woods again, so here's some advice:

Be aware - be safe - distribute this to all the hikers and hunters you know: In light of the rising frequency of human and grizzly bear conflicts, the Alberta Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters and fishermen to take extra precautions and keep alert for bears while in the field.... More Dark Stuff - especially for OTA

Poor OTA is desperately waiting for an item from me, so she can complete one of her lists. This would be item # 14, of course, since OTA finds it increasingly difficult to make lists consisting of less. In fact, it occurred to me that one day she might decide to list her children and discover that... Sign in to see full entry.

No Wives And No Murders...

Police in various Canadian provinces (states for my US friends) have occupied the clubhouses of the Hell’s Angels. Under new Canadian anti-racketeering legislation, these houses were obtained from the proceeds of lillegal activities, and hence are subject to seizure. Their neighbours seem to like... Might as well advertise...

Laurels are not something Bolivians associate with their country, yet they appear on their coat of arms. Now the government of President Evo Morales is proposing to replace such European symbols with indigenous ones. The laurel leaves would be replaced with coca leaves, a stimulant used for...
