Wiley.Coyote sent a frightful being after me,

... sitting there on my previous post, scaring the livin’ daylights out of me, demanding that I blog! So, with trembling hands I comply, though time is a bit of a scarce commodity around here right now. And because that’s the case, I shall for today join the many bloggers, including Wiley himself,... Pointless Polls...

This morning on CNN I found the results of a poll, which showed that there is a great deal of acceptance towards immigration and immigrants on the part of Americans. According to this poll, even Europe, historically a continent of emigrants rather than immigrants, appears to be more tolerant of... Sign in to see full entry.

Notes on Political Correctness III

Today a few notes on PC and language, for the few that are interested. (I know this will never generate a storm of clicks, for that I'll have a few more kittie adventures up my sleeve,.) The impact of PC on our language has been unprecedented. Of course, language is never static. We might say that... Sign in to see full entry.

A Feline Interlude

Let me set the scene for what is to follow. Ours is a cat family. We have a cat named Bubbles, although at the moment we have two, since our daughter left one of hers with us for a few days. This cat, who is named Mickey, (possibly in an attempt to fool whatever mouse might be within earshot),... Sign in to see full entry.

Notes on Political Correctness II

Corbin’s cogent comments on my first post on PC make me re-visit and examine further my contention that resentment and guilt are its prime sources and motivators. While related, analytically I want to keep these separate for now, and show how guilt has destroyed our immunity against resentment and... Sign in to see full entry.

The Iranian Threat

I had planned to continue my discussion of PC, but there are other matters that seem to be more pressing. One, it seems to me, was a statement by Mr. Ehud Olmert, Israel's Acting Prime Minister, that Iran was very much closer to producing a nuclear weapon than the figure of 'five to ten years' which... Notes on Political Correctness.

First, a note to my (few ) readers. These are notes, not an 'exhaustive analysis’. This will be the first, a kind of introduction, others will follow. [And I welcome constructive criticism, and will even gleefully read the outpourings of outrage, should there be such.] I will be making reference to... Sign in to see full entry.

What's happening to the melting pot?

As the Mexican invasion continues virtually unabated, as hundreds of thousands of the invaders march in the streets of America's cities, waving the Mexican flag and proclaiming their ‘right’ to settle in the United States, Congress dithers and debates, and there’s no solution in sight. Aligned... Sign in to see full entry.

Thinking about Zacarias Moussaoui's case,

I wonder how many people have noticed the deep irony that permeates his ‘sentencing trial’. Having been convicted of being an accessory to murder by withholding information that might have saved the lives of thousands, he is now availing himself of all possible means the legal system he despises and... A Teacher's Lament

I recently received a piece by a friend of mine who knows the writer, a teacher in Montreal. I know there are teachers among us (kingmi, for example), and I thought it might be instructive. I wonder if what this teacher has to say is endemic to our schools, both in Canada and the US, or wether her... Sign in to see full entry.
