Are Writers Made or Born?

Write on topics you like, or your work will suffer.

I never realized how important it was to only write about things for which you are passionate. As I mentioned recently, I've been procrastinating on this writing assignment I received for this tourist guide. What's strange is that I found myself writing this ridiculously long essay for some crazy... Sign in to see full entry.

Writing goals...

For me, a goal oriented person, I see my writing career similar to climbing a ladder. It's done one rung at a time. I pick an achievable goal, and go after it until it is completed. Then I up the ante, and pick a loftier goal. I don't understand all those people that want to start off writing books.... Sign in to see full entry.

In the writing doldrums

I have a writing assignment, but I keep procrastinating! Why is it that whenever I get a writing assignment, I do nothing but put it off until the last minute? It adds to my stress, I find a million other things to do, and I find myself cleaning the house suddenly. And that's not like me at all.... Sign in to see full entry.

Is writing painful for you too?

Do you actually enjoy writing? Is it a fun thing, or is it something you just have to do? For me, I have been bitten by the bug. I must do it, otherwise I am not happy. The writing process can be painful for me. I am a slow writer because I'm never satisfied with what I've written. I continually... Sign in to see full entry.

Are fiction (lit) writers becoming dinosaurs?

Do people read anymore? I mean, what kind of market is there for literary fiction nowadays? That's the essential question. With an endless amount of information on the Internet, news, RSS feeds, blogs, video blogs (http://www.wired.com/news/digiwood/0,1412,68171,00.html?tw=wn_tophead_1 ), video... Writing flaws...

Am I alone, when I see my writing in print and I only see the flaws? I see that I should have worked harder, and I wish I had done this and that. It's amazing what a little time can do to one's own text. The more time passes before you read your own writing, the more you can see the flaws. I have a... Sign in to see full entry.

Being published. Will it make you happy forever?

My first published article came out today. It was a 1500 word piece on a technical product, done pro bono. Anyway, I have been successful in my goal of being published. Although it IS pretty cool to have your name in a by line; it's not an end in itself. For those who have never published, know that... Sign in to see full entry.

Wasting our time here

If you are a serious writer, it is a waste of time to blog. The financial rewards for blogit are nominal, at best. Take a look at the leader, Ariala. She's made about 2500 in the last 25 months. $100 a month. That wouldn't cover my electric bill. And that's the leader! But I realize for most, it's... Sign in to see full entry.

Writing is difficult...

Since I've published a few things over the last few months, I've to the realization of three things about writing. One- it is very difficult. Two- the competition is fierce (but not insurmountable). Three -writers don't make much money. The third one is especially difficult to understand because... Sign in to see full entry.

100 words a day

Are writers born or made? I've decided that the question really isn't fair. There is no simple answer for it. It's actually a terribly complex question and so vague and general that to try to answer it would could come in the form of a mult-page essay. There are simply too many variables to decide...
