The very moment we restrict the rights of others, we risk losing our own.
Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the...

Play Ball!!!
Another spring, another season of softball. The team I am playing with is good, we do win the majority of our games, and winning is nice. But I miss my old team. I miss the cheers and the goofy jokes and the Wagon Wheels after the game (win or lose... and we lost nearly all of them). I miss playing...

Planting
It's almost planting time. Last year we missed the optimal time for planting seeds while we were visiting the evil in-laws in Newfoundland. So our garden was late and unproductive. This weekend coming up is the best time to plant seeds in this neck of the woods. But this year I won't be planting...

So Many Titles to Choose From
Knights are Brave and Strong, The Key To The Nile, It's Great To Be A Ghost. I was thinking of using anyone of the above as my title for this blog. At my “surprise” party a couple of weekends ago a friend of mine, who is also a mom, started to talk to me about The Backyardigans. My kids love this...

Why Watching The Amazing Race Makes Me Mad… But I Can't Stop Watching
Why? Why is it that there is a reality show that not only would I love to compete in, but that I actually have an excellent shot at winning and I am lacking the one tiny thing that would allow me to compete. I'm missing an American Passport. Watching the Amazing Race I see these people jetting off...

Kooookies!
Cold milk, warm cookies. Is there any other touchstone from our childhood that makes us feel more secure? I remember helping my grandmother make her signature cookies when I was four. Sitting on the kitchen counter, measuring and pouring and helping to make the neat little rectangles that were the...

Who He Is and Why I Love Him
This past weekend brought about several life altering events. This is the one that is foremost in my mind. I have to admit that entering a church has always brought a degree of comfort to me. Although I am not a believer in the strictest sense, I do find peace and some solace if I am sad, in the...

Is It Worth The Effort?
Much to write, much to express but I'm too tired to make the effort. I have a lot of ideas swirling around today, but sitting with my computer in my lap, and the light of the screen beating at my eyes is too much for me today. I'm not feeling well. I want to write, but even the clicking of the keys...

Ah, It's Good!
OK, I have to brag a little here. I wrote this blog while sitting in the warm spring sun, on my deck, in my yard with the girls playing in the grass. I can raise my eyes and see the glorious Rocky Mountains on the horizon, still gleaming with snow. Hell, I've got a pretty good life. Of course not...

SURPRISE!
I told you that I would tell you all about my "Surprise" party. Well - it took me a while to write it, I've been a little busy. If you want to read all about it I wrote it up in my Running/Marathon blog. I have a few other things to tell you, but I have two tiny terrorists making demands. (and they...
