Forgive? Why should I?
Bitterness can eat one up from the inside out. I have a friend who had a terrible falling out with her mother-in-law. And the divorce was only part of the problem. The mother-in-law is now quite ill. My friend decided it was time to forgive the woman who had caused so much tension within the family....

David and King Saul
I remember reading in the scriptures that King Saul would call David to play his harp which would calm Saul. I can understand that. I am currently playing classical (yes, classical) music on the television. Heavens, I couldn't play classical music if my life depended upon it. However, as I have...

Friends are Friends Forever
I think it is Michael W. Smith who sings a song with the above title. I love the song. Funny, the older I get, the more appreciate my friends. When I go home (hometown) to visit, I almost always call my high school girlfriend. When we talk, it's as if we've pick up where we were when we last saw...

I must be old
Okay, in my 20s I thought I would have a crisis when I turned 50. Why? Because not only would I be turning 50, but it was the beginning of a new millenium (2000). It didn't phase me in the least. However, I KNOW I'm old now. I went to a funeral today and the clothing attire was less than desirable...

Outside the safety box
It is difficult doing the right thing and sometimes it is incredibly frightening. It is one thing to stand in the pulpit and encourage others to speak up for justice, but to "live out" the same admonition is a real challenge. In the previous post I mentioned an injustice I felt was being done. It is...

I hate confrontation

With the advent of email, it is so much easier to be invisible. I sent emails to the corporate headquarters. It...

Ready for the Test?
"Temptation is always a testing; it is not meant to make a man (woman) fall; it is meant to test him (her) and to try him (her), so that out of the testing situation he (she) will emerge stronger and finer and purer, like a metal that is tested and tried in the fire." (William Barclay, The Mind of...

Speaking of . . .
I hope for the day when everyone can speak again of God without embarrassment. Paul Tillich I agree.

William Barclay's words
From his book, The Mind of Jesus, Barclay wrote, "The work in the shop and the life in the family were both parts of the essential education and preparation of Jesus for his task, for through them his full identity with men was established. In the shop he knew the problem and the anxiety of making a...

God's Perfect Timing
Alzheimer is a terrible disease. My mother was a victim of this disease. In a very real sense, I lost my Mom before my Mom died. Her memory, personality, smile was gone, but her body was present. After she died, I received a note from my supervisor (a Christian lady) telling me that she was praying...
