Doing Taxes While the Snow Flies . . . .

I am such a stick in the mud. While the rest of the world was watching the Super Bowl, guess what JanesO was doing? You got it: taxes. Sadly, my refund is about $1,000 less than it was last year, thanks to not having any education credits to take advantage of. That said, I am receiving a decent... Sign in to see full entry.

I've Coined A New Phrase: Piddle Path --

Yeah, I know, it's got a rather crude ring to it but it certainly fits. I had to shovel a path through the snow (overlying a grassy area) so my darling auld dog had a place to piddle. When there's two or more feet of the really cold stuff on the ground, I can imagine it is rather uncomfortable doing... Sign in to see full entry.

Dear Diary: I'm Flying to Scotland and . . . .

One should not watch movies about airline crashes prior to making flight arrangements. Yesterday I watched United 93. Fantastic movie, but not a good one to watch before booking tickets. All I can think about is what sort of crazed hijacker might be on the flight I'm about to book. Did the rest of... Sign in to see full entry.

I Know What YOU Are Thinking; I Can READ YOUR THOUGHTS!

Researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago have expressed the ultimate goal of their research as being that of reading peoples' thoughts. Using an extremely powerful MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), the researchers are able to track the individual firing of neurons in the brain.... Sign in to see full entry.

Blue Bubbles, Soap Suds, Violoncellos and Circles . . . .

Everyone who knows me, knows how much I dislike cleaning the bathroom. It usually takes the day prior for me to psych myself out and mentally prepare to blitz the place. I will iron, do dishes, laundry, vacuum, etc prior to cleaning the tub. So don't yell at me when I tell you it only gets done... Sign in to see full entry.

Casal's Capers and Bach Suites

As some of you may know, approximately two months ago I started learning cello. It has been a life long dream of mine and now it is happening, except that I sound pretty darn bad. Actually, that is no longer quite true. My teacher told me last week that my tone quality is very nice. She had a... Sign in to see full entry.

Do YOU Have a "Trained Attendant"????

I just received in the mail yesterday my renewal instructions and payment information for both my RN and nurse practitioner licenses from the state of Michigan. Wanting to verify that I had enough CMEs (for those of you not in the know, this stands for continuing medical education/the other term is... Sign in to see full entry.

Welcome to the Neighborhood!

As many of you who live in Michigan have discovered, the economy here ain't great. Talk with a realtor and ask how business is for him or her, and the typical response tends to be one of rolling the eyes. It's pretty lousy. Walk around the neighborhood (as I do daily with the auld mutt) and ponder... Sign in to see full entry.

Can you HEAR it? Imagine THIS . . . . .

A large room with open beam ceilings in which is a ten foot grand piano (with the top up), two violins, a cello, a tenor sax and a beautiful new Lyon and Healy harp. Oh yeah, plus the occasional harmonica and singers. It varied, depending on the song being played. Talk about a room full of music!... Sign in to see full entry.

Dear Diary: It's Been A Very Quiet Day . . . .

and certainly not the day I had anticipated. Funny how things work out, over which we often have so little control. I had planned on going to a movie with a friend -- to see The Nativity. And doing last minute Christmas shopping (actually, I've bought all I need but sometimes it's still fun to be... Sign in to see full entry.
