Harnessing Energy from the Sun

Yesterday, I attended a lecture by a person who suggests that by sun gazing and walking barefoot on the earth you can have a long and healthy life -up to 100 and more years. Amazing? Desirable? Believable? Hira Ratan Manek, as he is called, is a man in his early 70s, upright and slim, with a... Sign in to see full entry.

A concert under the stars

The Delhi evenings are very lovely and lend to outdoor activities. This includes weddings, birthday and anniversary celebrations, films, dance, theatre and music. They take place in various buildings across the city. The two places we frequent often are the Indian International Centre (IIC) and the... Sign in to see full entry.

A trip to the nursery

I love nurseries. I don't know much about plants. But, I love being among them - in nurseries, other people's homes and mine, in public places such as parks and gardens. Yesterday, my sister Saroj and I visited Masjid nursery - a place I am rather fond of. Most plants in my home are from there.... Sign in to see full entry.

Gardener's Grace

Just before the beginning of winter every year, Ramu the gardener begins to pester me to get pots for the flowers he wants to plant. This season it was no different. In October he started. I told him that the back yard was being dug up (it already was) and that I didn't want to get a whole lot of... Sign in to see full entry.

A Wedding Date

It's set. The wedding date. Its to be Sunday, November 22, 2009. My niece, Nomita, is getting married on that date. She's the daughter of my sister Saroj and brother in law Jasbir. She's 32 (actually 33 this month), an architect, like her parents, lives in Delhi, is a part of their architectural... Sign in to see full entry.

Seasonal Changes

Its March, and who thought it would come so fast. I don't know about you, but I don't know where January and February went. Pooof....just like that. In the first two months of the year we were wearing woolens, sleeping under quilts and blankets, wearing socks and switching on heaters. Windows and... Book Release and Reading

I had written earlier about my fondness for book releases. I went to one last night. The release was at the British Council. The current head of Penguin, who published the book, is a Brit, so it was a natural. The theatre in which such functions are held is poorly designed with very uncomfortable... Working From Home

Today I went to my Ragini's home for a meeting and lunch. When I arrived at 11.30, Ragini and her husband Prashant were finishing their toast breakfast. I declined an offer of tea of coffee, opting for a glass of water. A little while later Vidhur arrived. Prashant introduced him as a photographer... Sign in to see full entry.

Village Knowledge Centres

These days I live, eat and breathe Telecentres. They are also known as Village Knowledge Centres (VKCs), like the one in the photograph below. I took this photograph when I was visiting this Centre in 2006. I had been there in 2003. The VKC serves as a gathering point for the local community - a... Sign in to see full entry.

Therapy, meditation and a movie

Saturday was a full day with different activities. I saw clients in the clinic from 10 AM to 4 PM and then went to my meditation group. After seeing 4 clients - all quite troubled - it was good to spend 90 minutes breathing, visualising, walking and drinking tea, mostly in silence. One of the... Sign in to see full entry.
