Just visited a beautiful Thai/Laotian Buddhist temple- in Ft. Worth

My wife and I visited a (Thai) cousin in Fort Worth, Texas and I was amazed at the beauty of this Wat (the word for church in Thai). We attended the worship service on Sunday (this morning). I will post pictures here as soon as I get the photos developed and figure out how to put them in a post.... Sign in to see full entry.

The amazing knowledge of primitive shamans-- something to consider

The world holds many mysteries. They attract me like a magnet, even though the mystery is almost always impossible to solve with the sparse evidence available. This blog concerns the mystery of tribal shamans in the Amazon and their amazing knowledge, and one theory of how they acquire that... Sign in to see full entry.

The Grandest Illusions: Magic Shows and the Spirit World

I am reading a fascinating book. It is the latest in my collection of books concerning our alleged lives as spirits. This subject has thrilled me all my life, but I am not yet a believer. The book is Destiny of Souls by Dr. Michael Newton. I have read books about the spiritual realm all my life,... Sign in to see full entry.

Free Will… Dream or Nightmare?… Real or Imaginary?… Part 2 of 2

Freedom of will is a sharp two-edged sword. It cuts the bonds of conformity and allows us to seek knowledge, love and goodness in our own way. But it also allows the many evil ones among us to nurture their malice and build their power to destroy us. Freedom alone, unlimited, unguided, is not a... Sign in to see full entry.

Free Will… Dream or Nightmare?… Real or Imaginary?… Part 1 of 2

Do we have truly have free will (my position), are we pathetic victims of societal forces (the liberal position), or are we locked into God’s plan (the religious position)? The same person will have different answers, depending on the circumstances. I have a prime example of this to report. I... Sign in to see full entry.

Intention and Belief— Perpetual Partners in Crime

Long ago, I studied the Christian (Catholic) Inquisition, that horror of European civilization which occurred about 1100-1500 A.D. This study of mine played a large part in shaping my philosophy. Before anyone jumps to conclusions, I do not wish, in any way, to associate any living Christian with... Sign in to see full entry.

Socrates and Plato, the Philosophical Ancestors of Jesus-- Part 2

I promised to discuss the related errors of Socrates, Plato, Christianity, and Liberalism. That is a tall order, and it is not done in a few clever lines of bravado. Allow me to start in chronological order, with the Greeks. So, exactly what is that faulty philosophy, as handed down from the Greeks?... Sign in to see full entry.

Socrates and Plato, The Philosophical Ancestors of Jesus

I cannot yet trace the historical progression of philosophical thought directly from Socrates to Jesus, but the New Testament gospels were written in Greek, so that should tell you something. A language does not exist separate from its parent culture, but is an extension of that culture. I just saw... Sign in to see full entry.

Crime, Corruption, and Evil in Karmic Societies

This is a continuation of the comments from the last post on Karma. Able Ergot points out that the US murder rate is high, and that our government engages in questionable, or unjust, foriegn policy. I will grant those points. But as you may have read, my wife is from Thailand and I have travelled... Sign in to see full entry.

Karmic Kapers- Part Two

What are the specific faults of karmic justice? It is a hypothesis more difficult to challenge than Divine Justice (such as in Christianity), for it is a logical moral extension of cause and effect. Also, it provides a neat explanation for evil and injustice, making them tools of punishment for... Sign in to see full entry.
