The E-mailer's 10 Commandments
or....Rules I Wish Everyone Would Follow When Using My E-mail Address: Thou shalt send no prurient or pornographic material to my e-mail address. Thou shalt not forward advertisements for weight loss products, work-at-home opportunities, or sexual enhancement products to my e-mail address. I do not... Sign in to see full entry.

Make Your Blogging Dollars Count for More!
I'm Doing a 5K! There's a group of us at work who are having our own "Biggest Loser" competition. And we decided that one of the things we would like to do together is participate in a walk-a-thon for a good cause. One of our members found the WalkAmerica walk, which has the goal of raising money to... Sign in to see full entry.

Spelling Rant
The Grammar Guru assures her loyal readers that she will be back in business soon. Hopefully when her house remodel is complete, she will be able to find all of the reference materials that she needs, along with the time, to answer the several pending questions that are in her Inbox. But she had to... Sign in to see full entry.

Puzzling Redundancies
You see them all the time. Phrases in which the main idea is repeated more than once. (Yes, I did that on purpose.) Take, for example, the phrase I saw today in an article about ugly team uniforms. The author mentioned the "arm sleeves." Why? When you are talking about clothing, sleeves are the... Sign in to see full entry.

Subject-Verb Agreement With Intervening Prepositional Phrases
A fancy title for a simple concept. Another blogger asked the Grammar Guru, "Will you please teach people about proper subject-verb agreement -- especially in cases where the subject may seem to be plural, but really isn't... as in a flock of seagulls? I am getting quite sick of seeing things such... Sign in to see full entry.

The Effects of Improper Usage Can Affect Your Life
"Effect" and "affect" have the unfortunate ability to drive people insane. As homophones (or homonyms, depending on how old you are), their similar sound makes choosing the correct spelling difficult. But there is an easy way to select the correct one. "Affect" is a transitive verb meaning "to act... Sign in to see full entry.

Help Stamp Out Apostrophe Abuse!
Never use the apostrophe (that's the little mark like this ' ) to make words plural. It's wrong; it's annoying, and it makes your writing look amateurish. The plural of apple is not apple's ---it's apples! When you see 's at the end of a word, you should automatically think one of two things:... Sign in to see full entry.

Who's vs. Whose
There's a battle going on in the world of words, and heaven only knows who's going to win! Everywhere I go, I see "who's" being used as a possessive -- I don't know why; it's just plain silly. Actually, I have a pretty good guess about why it's happening. People don't understand apostrophes. I've... Sign in to see full entry.
