So... Who speaks Italian? Doing foreign vocabulary right

I don't, not beyond getting about a bit as a tourist. When do you use 'de' vs 'degli' vs 'dei' and are these all forms of 'of' or 'of the'? I've been reading a fine historic novel called THE DUCHESS OF MILAN which is liberally salted with Italian rudenessess, too--and some of them would be right at... Sign in to see full entry.

post 54 - THE HERETICS - memories and clarifications

ch 13 the Book (cont) "What are you sitting there for? Admiring the view? Get on, you silly, noodle-minded, misbegotten, corrupted spawn of Lilith! Get up!" She waved back at me in a friendly fashion. Obviously, she couldn’t hear what I was after saying to her.. But at least she was moving again. I... Sign in to see full entry.

Writing around personal bias

MedicineFlower wrote a piece today-- http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/MedicineFlower1372/ --on the necessity of separating out personal bias and agenda from the writing of a novel. It got me thinking... This is not at all rebuttal of MedicineFlower's point, but heads off in a somewhat other... Sign in to see full entry.

The best part of writing: RESEARCH!

In all the years of formal education, I always hated having to do research. Looking things up... no fun at all! Never before had I held back such a thing from Him, and while He did not challenge my silence, surely He knew: He could hear my heart quickening each time I saw His gaze upon me; when He spoke to me, I... post 23 THE HERETICS - Under the Burren

ch 4 The Burren (cont) When the sound of swearing stopped, I lay and listened to the stillness... Twilight had gone, and the twisted wad that was myself at the bottom of the hole stirred. Tangled I was, in cassock and brychan and the straps of my pack; I extricated myself and felt about, assessing... Sign in to see full entry.

Patriot Prompt

Would you fight for the sovereignty of your nation even to the cost of making the entire planet unfit for human life? Would you defend to the death of the world your nation's principles and ideals--no matter how poorly your nation had been living up to those same values? How great a sacrifice would...
