The other side
My NZ family--the younger daughter and her husband--have arrived and this morning they and I drove out to Great Falls National Park (making the first use of this year's National Park Pass, an annual purchase which usually pays for itself several times over). They have a rental car so we asked the Magic Voice how to get there. She directed us neatly to the Virginia side of the park. And how are the leaves upstate, as October opens?
After the wedding couple returns, I hope to drive up into NY and the Adirondaks to get a few pictures of the eastern autumn. But with the warmish weather, I wonder if the leaves have begun to turn yet up there? I have heard no word of a hard frost, and down here there is no great fall color yet. Suggestions, anyone?

Quick trip to Baltimore... and a Fashion Parade
We had lunch on the harbor, at Phillips--tasty king crab bisque and a salad with crab meat on it. Then we looked at a couple of clothing stores and came home again with various wedding clothing items--much more of what I wanted, than what I brought from home! Today's catch is organic cotten, loosely-woven: a long A-line skirt and a top with a droopy scoop neckline and 3/4 length sleeves gathered up a little from the stretchy hem towards the shoulder. safely arrived...
watered and fed, and ready for bed... It was an uncommonly good flight, with passage directly over Canyonlands on the first leg to Albuquerque, and exceptionally exhilerating conversation from there all the way to Baltimore. There will of course be pictures in days to come of the wonderful red rocks!

6AM wake-up call...
I have this thing about missing a flight... the plane leaves at 9:40 tomorrow morning... husband seems to think the hour plus a little it should take to make the 60+ mile drive means we can leave at 8. ummm... No. Rush hour traffic in two cities... a distinct possibility. Business-folk off on their first-thing-in-the-morning flights = longer security line... No. I want to be there by 7:30, latest. We leave at 6:30. Now I just have to get to sleep... always hard to do before another adventure...
